TV turns itself off?

I am sharing four cases in which your tv either turns itself off or appears to turn itself off.

TV appears to be off
  • You using your tv as a monitor or your pc is in sleeping mode.
  • Your cable or satellite Box is not outputting a signal.

TV turns iteself off
  • The sleep timer is set.
  • The off timer is set.

Your tv appears to be off:

If you are using the tv as a monitor If you are using tv as a monitor and the stand-by light only
blinks for a few seconds when you press the power button, your pc is in the sleeping mode. To take your pc out of sleep, press a key from your key board or move the mouse.Tv turns on.

If you are using TV with a cable or satellite Box

If you have a cable or satellite Box your Tv may appear be off because the cable or satellite Box is not outputting a signal.Press the guide or info button on the cable or satellite Box remote control.

if the screen displays info or guide data, the problem is caused by the Box,you must call your cable provider.
if screen does not display info data, change the source on your TV.

Grundig TV turns itself on

Remove power for a day and see if the processor resets. It seems to be only due to the timer as the TV can be triggered only from the internal timer to power ON.Try and reset all the timer settings , switch power off completely and it must cancel all settings.

Turns on and off

If your TV turns off by itself, first check whether or not it has a built-in sleep timer by consulting the instruction manual of the TV in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony® eSupport Web site. If the TV does not have a sleep timer, or the timer is not set to turn the TV off, service may be required to resolve the issue.

TV will not come on with remote or power button

The following instructions are for the Emerson EWC1303/1903 tv/vcr. That's the closest match I could find to the Spongebob Squarepants 13' TV
If it's actually in Sleep mode, do the following:

TO CANCEL THE SLEEP TIMER
Press the WAKE UP/SLEEP button on the remote
control until “SLEEP TIMER” appears.
To view the time left for sleep timer press the WAKE
UP/SLEEP button twice, then press the MENU button
on the remote control to exit the sleep timer setting

If unsuccessful, try unplugging the TV for 1/2 hour, then plug it in and try turning it back on either manually or with the remote. Either of these should solve your problem. Best of luck to you!

Goodmans 15" LCD keeps switching itself on

I'm having the same problem with the same TV that I bought my daughter for Christmas.

I haven't tried this myself yet, but it is suggested on another website that the TV is switching on to look for software updates during the night. Apparently you can switch the auto-update feature off, which fixes the issue.
