50 in LG turns on and then clicks and turns back off

LG Plasma 50PC3D turns on, clicks and then turns off. There is no sound, no picture.

My tv seems like it is turning on normal as the light on the front turns green, but then it clicks off by itself with a loud click. I just tried turning it on about 80 times and it finally did with no audio. After trying several more times with broken audio, it is working fine. Seems to work better when DVD player is powered on and a movie is running. This all started one day after a power surge, and the TV has never been the same.

The power supply is going in to protect mode. Most often this is a power supply failure, or a failure on one of the circuit boards that is causing the power supply to go in to protect.

If the power supply fault is not too complicated an experienced tech may be able to service it without changing the compete circuit board.

The tech will service this by substituting boards to determine where the failure is occuring. Then he will change the board to fix the fault.
