No disk will play in my dvd player sony dvp ns305. All that comes up is cannot play disk. i had a look inside and disk will not spin. When i spin disk with hand its like the motor cuts in for a second as the disk accelerates for a second then slows to a stop. etching sound as laser moves back and forward along disk. Laser seems to be working as i can see red light being emitted to disk. Any ideas as to what the problem maybe. Tried cleaning laser but alas cleaning disk would not play and laser seemed hard to access with alcohol wipe. could it be spindle motor or something i can do myself. thanks for reading hoping u can help. thanks. i live in fiji and the people here are hopeless at fixing electronics. they say they have to send it overseas and u end up paying more. i've already been through one other player by sony and the problem for that was the sound would come but no picture. if this doesn't get better i'm never buying sony again...EVER!

Open unit and blow off carefully on laser eye with dust can if not there is a good chance your laser and or spindle motor in laser assembly is bad .Easy to change out .part # 8-820-237-06 (comes with spindel motor) at www.sony.com in parts/acess section ..If you do decide to change yourself make sure you unsolder small dot of solder on laser before install ..This is shipped soldered for static reasons..goodluck

Sony DVP-cx860 Disks won't feed from the carousel into the reader.

The thickness of DVDs and CDs often vary and the surfaces are too slick. Roughening the outer edge(s) of one or both side(s) of the disk was an immediate fix for the loading problem.

I have a sony dvd player model dvp-ns305 i live in rhodes greece family send me films on formatted discs but my player says can not play this disc? can you give me advice or solution

If it plays other bought discs, then maybe your DVD player has been configured not to play pirated discs or the films weren't copied well.

A disk is stuck in the tray of my sony DVP-NS305 player. The disk tray will not respond to either the hand piece or the button on the player itself. The word "Locked" comes up on the display. How...

Unplug power cord, and whenb you plug power back and restart the DVD, keep pressing repeatedly the eject button on the unit.

Do this a couple of times.

If it does not work you will need to take apart the unit to take out the disk. In this case consider calling a qualified technician if you are not sure about how to do it.

I think I found these adjustments! There are two tiny surface-mount potentiometers (could be capacitors also) sitting in the small circuit on laser assembly.

this is exactly response I would like to hear - an expert opinion!

What I did with help of 1mm-wide screwdriver:

1) There were two surface-mount potentiometers marked with C1 and D. I tried first D. Turned it clock- and counterclockwise by about 45 degrees.
2) After each turn I opened and closed tray to force the player read DVD disc.
3) It did not help, "NO DISC", then I tried the same with C1, and again, no luck.
4) Finally, I came back to D and turned it by about 180 degrees in one direction. IT WORKED!!!

Moreover, seem that now player reads content of the DVD discs faster then before. Probably manufacturer did not really adjust it properly and upon the time something has degraded, so it failed eventually.
Some Home dvd players may not have any adjustment abilities, but you would find such things not too far away from the lense, if they don't exist, get a new unit.

DVP-NS50P will not load DVD

the lense could be only dirty, try cleaning it first. i suggest do a manual cleaning if you can. open the top cover of the unit, remove the disk retainer and you will find the lense somewhere in the middle. use a cotton bud, use a little of alcohol, dampen a little only and wipe the lense in circular motion. then use new dry bud to dry it.
