Breville 800esxl won't extract coffee or steam milk.

For some reason it is not sending the water through. it makes the pumping noise.

I am getting some flow through but it is very slow. I tried de-calcifying and even buying new coffee. The problem still exists and now I think I just burnt out my pump trying to fix it! =(

Only water flows through the basket with my machine. The pump appears to have lost strength, as it won't force water through even coarsely ground coffee. Could the pump be bad? It's not the grind.

no steaming, no espresso. the grind is fine.
I tried tamping it differently--no effect.
now barely anything happens when it's on.

We had the same problem, and it was fixed when we purchased a new filter basket.  How can we keep this from happening in the future? Is there a way to clean these filter baskets other than with soap and water?

If I run my Breville 800esxl without espresso in it the flows just fine. I have done the cleaning as suggested on Breville's website. I have cleaned the 2 shot basket. I have owned this machine for a few years and have just started having this issue. When there is espresso in the basket it just barely dribbles out liquid even with coarser espresso. Any suggestions?

Is your machine new or is this a new problem? If you have had the machine for a while there is a possibility that your double wall filter is clog between the walls which would prevent the water from going through (this happens when your grind is too fine). If however the water does not go through when you do not have a filter in the basket than you have a diferent problem.

I got through to the tech support at Breville and they helped me fix this problem. What they had me do was:

1)Fill the water tank all the way up

2)Turn the power on and wait until the heating light turns off.

3)without coffee in the head turn the machine to espresso mode and let it pump for a minute.

4)after a minute turn to standby for a couple seconds then turn it to steam mode for a minute.

5) after this minute is up turn it back to standby for a couple of seconds and then back to espresso mode.

6) the technician said to do this seven times, but mine started working after three or so. The tech said the fixes about 80 to 90 percent of machines with this problem.

Good Luck!

I have the same problem. I used my machine for one day to test it when I had it brought into Vietnam then packed it while our house was being built.
Now it won't pump water or produce steam.

Breville Die Cast 800ESXL Espresso Machine: Problem... Watery espresso. My machine worked great for a year, then all the sudden, the espresso is watery and the basket where the grinds are is full of water...

Hi,

Personnaly, when I use the big filter, the grinds are dry after the extraction, but for the small filter, it's all soggy. If you look at the documentation, ( http://kitchen.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/breville/breville_coffeemaker_product_list.html) they say wet coffee grind after extraction is normal.
But did you change the coffee brand ? Or the grinding level ? How do you grind your coffee ? I had big troubbles once with a commercial grinder at my grocery store, it's when I decided to buy my own Breville grinder.

Good luck,

Extremely loud squealing noise during steaming milk

This could be blocked. The best way to clear this is to switch off the machine and see if you can dismantle the frother arm. Sometimes the arm will come off by unscrewing. If it does, wash it in hot water and washing liquid. If it doesn't come off try putting the frother wand into a mug of cold water and allow it just to steam the water.
Frother wands don't just steam liquids - they **** up liquid which can block the vents and the actual steam hole which this machines' problem sounds like it does have.

Breville espresso machine 800 ES

I have the same problem. It appears to be caused by a worn steam wand gasket that's inside the steam wand assembly which can be unscrewed from the Breville machine. This was confirmed by the folks at Breville. They referred me to www.thegourmetdepotco.com. That website does not sell the steam wand gasket separately. They sell "Frother Assembly MOdel #800ESXL-250" for $14.95. With tax ($1.42) and shipping via USPS ($5.65), the total is $22.02. A very high price for the failure of a simple plastic washer, but it beats buying a new machine!

Makes espresso, coffee, water, but will not steam

The pump has gone bad - through use. This is a common problem, and has to do with the "seals" that are in the pump. Since the pump generates high pressure and heat, over time, the seals will fail, and will be unable to generate enough pressure and heat to create steam. The only remedy is to have the pump replaced through the Breville Out of Warranty repair centers.
