A way to check to see if the machine is overheating is when you turn on the computer, there should be an option to hit F10 or F2 for the bios. In there, there should be a few temperature readings. Let the machine idle and in the bios if the tempature rises in there there could be an issue with the cooling for the CPU.

If memory serves me, the mass storage controller is part of the chipset software. Here is a link to the driver download for you laptop. Choose the OS, and then look under motherboard for the chipset driver. While you are there, you might even update all your hardware drivers.

ok you just change "Boot Priority" option and select it as "Boot from DVD Driver" and save it. Now you can load xp or any other OS

I couldn't immediately find your model number on the Sony support site so please double check that it's correct and then select your model number from the drop down box or enter your serial number at this link in order to view the available driver downloads for your laptop. You may find that the mass storage device driver is bundled within one of the main Intel executables.

As Sony does not support installation of Windows 7 in your computer model, you can install the Vista drives from the below, It will work.

Most likely missing a driver for SD/MC card reader
The problem is that Sony doesnt offer drivers for 64-bit windows so the other 32-bit drivers will not be compatible.
You have the options to install the windows versions supported by sony from esupport.sony.com (Vista or XP)
Or try installing windows 7 32-bit and installing the missing drivers from esupport (Vista section) as usually they are compatible.
If the driver is still missing you will need to update the driver from device manager (previously installed from esupport) and then select to browse or select a location, which will be %temp% or what is the same the temp folder for your account C\users\your_user_name\appdata\temp. This folder is usually hidden but it will work if you just type %temp%

The drivers for Windows 7 are not released by Sony. However, my experience says installing the Vista drivers will do the trick. I will tell you which all drivers to install in the computer to for mass storage device. Please install the drivers in the same order:

About the link you need to download the driver for your DVD-RW drive, have you tried the Pioneer website?

I would go to www.sony.com and click on service and support on the website in the space after the word model put the vgn-cr590
