Sony kdf e55a20 picture goes black sound stays on

I have a sony kdfe55a20, this week it started blacking out about every hour or so,but then the picture will return in about 30 to 60 seconds and all the while maintaining a solid green power light as if nothing is wrong.I bought it new in 2005 and have not had to replace the bulb,cajn that be the problem,Any help would be great. Video signal drops off, audio signal continues. Video goes black but can still hear the sound from the program. Video is out for about 30 seconds and comes back, first dim and then a second or two comes back to normal brightness. Talked with Sony customer service to helped me with the problem, they helped me reset tv to factory defaults and this did not solve problem. I specifically asked if it could be the lamp. my tv is also about 3 years old. The rep said if the lamp replacement light is not on, it couldn't be the lamp. I have the same problem - The black screen happens about every 30-45sec. I called Sony and they refered me to a repair shop. About a weeks wait, and 60 dollars to look at the t.v. There has to be an easier-self fix to this issue. It seems to be somewhat common. My lamp light is not comming on, so what's the issue here?
