Bernina 910 sewing machine extension table

I bought a Bernina 910 sewing machine at a school surplus auction. The metal bed that came with it has the number 301 130 00 embossed on it. It doesn't seem to fit my machine. It has a sort of stirrup on the base that moves a little. I am wondering what the correct model number of the table would be and where I would get one. Bernina's website is no help.

Thank you so much! I will try eBay. I figured going through Bernina to try to get info was a lost cause. I will write the auction people again to see if anyone got the wrong table and exchange with them if possible. I know they must be frustrated trying to fit a 910 table on an 830 which is what the other machines were in the auction. Thanks again!

I did contact the auction folks. Another person got the wrong foot pedal for her 830. They are very nice but said that was what previews are about. I did preview the machine but didn't have the nerve to try to plug it in as it was in a cold building with tons of other stuff around it. I will sell my extension table for the 830 on eBay, I guess. I haven't found one yet on any website but I appreciate the info. I am going to have to download a copy of the manual as that wasn't with it either. As for the foot pedal, I already took the machien to store it for awhile but it does fit fine.

Hi Phoebe,

What you have is the extension table for the 830 and the 830E Bernina models. What you need is part number 301 276 100. This table looks a little different as it has a small see-through window in the bobbin area and also, it has no clamp (it has push-in pins). Ebay or a site like SewItsForSale is your best bet. I doubt the dealer could get one but if they could, it'd be likely around $100.

Hey Phoebe, you're welcome. Tell the auction folks to ask if anyone got a table with a see-through window in it (it's not glass...a bit of plexiglass, I reckon). What kinda foot pedal did ya get (number stamped on bottom)? I've got a 910 too. We could chat if there was a way to email outta this site. I'm new here and haven't figured it out yet.

Very wise! I'd never try to run a machine without cleaning it up/oiling and warming it and making sure all systems are free. I did some checking and believe all 910s should have the 366 footpedal. This gives you the very desirable needle up/down feature. Squeeze the narrow end of the footpedal (the bit nearest you) and it brings the needle down, squeeze it again and the needle goes up. Soooo handy when you're doing applique or lots of turning with your fabric.

You don't really need the extension table. Sad to say, they are difficult to find as the 830 tables are much more common. You're probably in there for the long haul. I'd look in garage sales for cheap formica sewing tables (seems half the sales in my area have one!). Most have a cut-out and you can easily place the free arm of the machine in the cut-out and achieve the same thing. It's a pain to remove the ext. table for every bobbin change.

I didn't get the manual with mine, which is a pain as the BerninaUSA site doesn't have a download.

How do I remove the free arm plate from my Bernina 830

Not sure I understand your question. Is that the old Bernina 830 Record? Removing the extension table will reveal the free arm. On the other hand, if you want to open the free arm to clean and oil, look inside the bobbin department and there is a little metal tab on the left top side that, when pushed, will release the cover.

For the newer computerized 830, here's the manual:

Berninamatic 910 is frozen. Where can I find manuals so that I can service it?

Ken--
May be difficult to find for your machine because of its age.

Something may be close on this Bernina site (the 910 looks a lot like the 930 without the basting stitch, perhaps the needle up/down function, and fewer decorative stitches):

Most likely the machine has seized due to lack of fresh oil. The old oil has solidified and turned to glue and has stuck the moving parts together. Do not force it!

Remove the free-arm cover.

Open the top. (There is a metal peg on the top left with a screw slot in the center. Turn this screw 1/4 turn. Now lift the bobbin winder and you will see another METAL screw. Turn that 1/4 turn. Do NOT mess with the plastic screw unless you want to mess up the winder.) Now you can gently lift off the top. Pay particular attention how it fits as you will need to jimmy it a bit to get it back on without bending anything!!!

Now you can remove the cover on the left side over the needlebar.

Pick up a bottle of liquid Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube (hardware store or bike shop) with the small plastic tube dispenser. Gently rock the handwheel and apply a couple drops of Tri-Flow every place that metal rubs on metal. Do NOT oil the white nylon gears, the cams, or the belt!!! If you look closely, you will most likely see some small holes that are actually oil ports. There is a large one just on the inside of the case (left of the belt) that is part of the handwheel mechanism. This is probably where your problem exists. Do NOT over-oil or you'll be cleaning up oil for a long time and it could get into the electronics.

Work your way across the top of the machine. Be sure to move the stitch selector levers, the buttonhole knob, stitch width dial, etc and get oil into those metal mechanisms as well. There are 4 or 5 oil ports on the needlebar knuckles. Be sure to get those--one or two may be hidden so you'll need to rotate the handwheel and use the long tube to get to a couple. Oil the needlebar where it goes through the case, be sure to hit the presser foot lever mechanism.

Work your way down to the bobbin area. Be sure to get the oil port at the very back of the feed dogs next to the case (this is a very important one!). Get oil on all the metal moving parts and be sure to toggle the feed dog knob and get that mechanism too.

Now, take a handheld hairdryer and direct hot air into the internal mechanism of the machine. I've gotten the metal so warm it was difficult to touch. You may need to alternate between oil and heat, but if there is nothing mechanically wrong with your machine, this will get it running smoothly again. I've used this method on several seized mechanical Berninas and it has never failed unless a nylon gear is cracked or there is something else mechanically awry.

For sure, every time you start a project, apply a couple drops of oil where the hook and shuttle rub together (see the bottom photo below, the very bottom arrow on the left) or see page 45 of the Bernina 930 manual (Maintenance section).

Be sure to lube your machine often. Once you are familiar with the sound of a smooth-running machine, you will recognize by its sound when it needs some TLC. Other than that, plan to lightly oil every 40 hours of sewing. If in storage, every 6 months whether in use or not.

The photo below is actually a Bernina 830, but the mechanism is fairly similar to the 930/910.

Where to buy extension table for bernina 1006

It is an older model, so most likely you will find only used parts. eBay is a place to look, although I can't say I've seen many replacement parts for the 1006. Of course, perhaps the extension table fits more than one machine (although that's not very common with Bernina). You can also check out the acrylic tables (ie Sew Steady) available from several vendors online or even in some stores (you'll probably need to order what you need since they are made to your machine's specifications).

Bernina 930 extention table

You can check eBay. Sometimes extension tables are available from machines that are being sold as parts. Be sure that the table will fit your particular machine. There were at least two tables made for the 930 Record, and the tables are not interchangeable.

Need replacement bed extension

If you check out eBay, one may show up there for sale. However, you can also check out non-brand bed extensions like the "Sew Steady" that is available to fit your particular machine/model. It is clear plexiglass and has the cut-out made to match your machine. Or, if you know a handyman, someone can probably make one for you.
