Wont agitate unless you move the agitator

Machine fills up with water then when its supposed to start to agitate it hums. You have to manualy put your hands in around the agitater and turn it. Then it starts washing thru the whole cycle fine. Any suggestions. Thanks Lorie

I have a kenmore 700 series top-loader washing machine. Its about 8 years old but looks pretty new. My knob turns fine but the housing enclosure for the number does not turn with the knob. I have to...

The burnt plastic smell is probably the belt that drives the agitator. There may be something stuck (wrapped) around the shaft under the agitator that tightens the gears so the belt just slips and heats up. Remove the agitator and make sure the shaft is clear. also if it is belt and gear driven, check the gears. This means removing a panel or turning the unit sideways to inspect from below. The hum is the motor either not turning or turning with the belt too tight.
Hope this helps...

Wwont agitate

In the circuit there is a module that works the agitation of the machine . It is an electronic device that moves the motor back and forth producing the agitation and is not connected to any other operation. Have it checked by a washing machine mechanic for failure.

WILL NOT AGITATE, SPIN OR DRAIN. WASHER FILLS WITH WATER, HOWEVER, WHEN AGITATOR CYCLE BEGINS, MOTOR HUMS AND BELT WILL NOT MOVE.

Open the back cover and start the washing cycle. When the agitator cycle begins check if the motor rotates. If it does not and the humming sound comes there is problem is withe motor. Also check the tightness of the belt. Even if it is loose it does move but it is slippery movement unless it is completely loose. Anyway the problem is with your motor and the connecting bearing/pulley. You have to ask a technicians to help you out

WHIRLPOOL TOP LOAD WASHER MAKING GRINDING NOISE FOR AGITATION

When you put the motor in did you replace the coupler between the motor and transmission? When fixing the agitator you need to get the agitator repair kit, It has seals, dogs, thrust plate, cam bearing and seals. The upper agitator is supposed to move only in one direction to get the clothes to move down towards the agitator. Do not overload machine. I have one of these and after 12 years I finally had to install this upper repair kit because the upper agitator quit moving. You may have an agitate cam that is going bad inside the transmission

Washer fills wont agitate or spin

supposed to be a problem only with water level switch.

hhhmmmnnn...

try checking the hose that goes from the bottom end to the pressure switch. if there is a hole or a crack or anything loose on the connection. if the pressure won't build up on the water level switch, it wont transfer the contacts to start agitating.

test the water level switch by pulling the hose from the drum end and blow unto it until you hear a click on the water level switch. this should turn your agitator so please be careful and watch out for parts moving rapidly.

tnx 4 using fixya,
