No battery status Garmin 760

The ac adapter may be defective. Try another ac adapter that will fit into the Garmin. If the problem does not duplicate, then replace the Garmin adapter.

The battery status only shows up when the satnav is disconnected from the charger. Your first charge should be a continuous charge until the battery is full. This can be done by connecting it to your computer for 8 hours approximately or 4 hours to your car cigarette lighter socket or 4 hours to an, optional extra, mains charger.

I don't know which of the three ways you're trying to charge - car cradle, via USB cable to a computer or via accessory AC adapter. An 18 month old 760 should still have a good battery.

If you are using your car cradle to charge consistently, use one of the other methods and allow the 760 to charge for 8 hours. Use of the car cradle can cause the 760 to stop taking a charge after a while, and switching to one of the other methods should "refresh" the internal battery. Since the AC adapter wasn't included in the box, the USB cable method is likely your only other choice. While connected to your computer, you should download & update the 760's firmware. It's fast and free - and could solve other potential issues. Get the WebUpdater software direct from Garmin.

It is also possible that the fuse in the cigar lighter plug has opened. Disassemble the the plug to check for and replace a blown fuse.

If unable to get the 760 to accept a charge, you might need to replace the battery. There are several sources for batteries - but a free call to Garmin Support should be your first move.

THE BATTERY HAS FAILED, THEY LAST ON AVERAGE 2 YEARS.

My unit was totally dead. I just kept it plugged into my computer for about 12 hours. I downloaded the newest software from Garmin. When I unplugged it from my computer, the battery seemed to drain quick, but once I plugged it into the card adapter in the car... everything seems to be running great now.

The indicator goes away telling you that its no longer running on battery power and that its running on the car or AC charger. During that time, its charging the battery. Only when you remove the unit from the charger/adapter will you see the battery icon because you will then be on battery power. 4 green bars mean you are near or fully charged.

The AC charger plugs into the mini-USB port on the bottom of the unit. The term AC is somewhat misleading as the AC charger plugs into an AC outlet but provides +5VDC to charge the units internal 3.7VDC battery.

Plug the charger into the mini-usb jack. The unit should turn on and when you come to the main menu, you should see a lightning bolt over the battery bar graph. This indicates that it is charging. If you don't plan on using it and want to charge it over night, if your Nuvi has a push down power switch on the top, press and hold it briefly until it goes to a black screen and says charging. If your Nuvi has a slide switch, slide it to the left until you get the same charging screen. A few seconds later, the screen will go dark but if you touch the screen, it will light up again and say its charging and go dark again. After several hours, when you go to touch the screen it will say Charging Complete". Yiu will also notice then when you go to use it, you will see ALL of the green bars on the battery bar graph will be lit.
