There are many ways to connect, to the www.
wifi is but one of many. wifi, ethernet, wlan 3G, and usb wifi and more.
what OS you run w8 or w10>.?
was it upgraded from 8 to 10?
are you at home? or off the grid? if at home do you have wifi in your home?
click the wifi logo in the wifi task bar, see any wifi near you.?
yes, then is your wifi SSID name there? that you own.>
first if running windows
click start and control panel
the click, device manager
is the wifi there , looking ok,
not unknown
not red/yellow marked. errors?
this PC was sold new 2012

windows 8.1 is the odd duck with charm-bar deviance's.
guide 1, page 15
what I do is press windows key, to make w8
act normal. (like all other non w8 do)
then step
Tap or click the wireless network icon
to go farther you need a wifi router at home
and know your broadcasted SSID wifi name (yours)
then your login credentials.
if you router has WPS ,this is more easy. (button marked WPS)
