When TV is turned on, a cloudy blue area about the size of a volley ball, maybe a little smaller, appears in the center of the screen. When there are times a movie takes place where darkness, or a dark room or something similar is portrayed, the blue area becomes prominent and annoying. What is the cause of this and how can it be remedied?

Hello,
If you can fix it by yourself, there is a problem in horizontal circuit panel, you need to check that in series because the part appear visbly good but when tested by the exact tester you register busted. that should be replaced immediately. Check also the vertical panel parts of the circuit. but if hard you do the job you may consult the service center of your TV or the vendor of the TV.
ps. please don't rate me if you are not convince of my suggestion.
best regards, melnavz

Youlikely have dust inside the optical block on the LCD panels. Cleaning the panels is a tricky job and just shooting compressed air into the block will only redistribute the dust. A qualified tech can disassemle the block and clean the panels
You have a bad optical block, the block has a 2 year warrnty but you will have to pay labor to have a tech change it
SOURCE: Our Sony Bravia tv picture keeps going light dark
I have Sony KDL-32XBR9 and I have noticed a similar problem. When the picture is showing mostly black, for example during the ending credits of a movie, the TV will further darken the display. Once the picture lightens back up, the TV will adjust the brightness of the display back to normal. I just called Sony customer support and they indicated it was a firmware problem and they will be sending a USB device in the mail to update the firmware. Hope this helps.
