Unable to scan b/w neg's correctly using Digital ICE

I am unable to scan black/white negatives correctly using Digital ICE.
Any C-41 Neg's work great, but when using older b/w neg's (ie: Koday Tri-X), the finished scan comes out looking like a bad xerox copy.

When I uncheck the Digital ICE, scan looks fine...except all the dust & scratches really stand out. which leaves a lot of wasted time trying to correct in Photoshop.

Any tricks to scan b/w neg's with Digital ICE???

    I just realize that I have the same problem using Nikon Coolscan V ED: gray shades are not shown properly, and it looks like a hard B+W copy. Naturally have to mention, that I used all B+W adjustments available, but useless. Any advice available?

Unfortunately, you cannot use Digital ICE on B&W films due to silver particles contained within the film. The Digital ICE future only works with C-41 (negatives) and E-6 (slides) processed films, but not B&W films.

Scanning 35mm negs on my Epson Stylus PHOTO RX620

Try using a slightly off-white background sheet behind the negative (glass-negative-sheet-scanner lid) first, or a "frame" around the negative that is anything but white... some scanners have an auto-detect feature that may be skewed for one reason or another.

Another trick, from a photographer friend, is to take saran wrap or another transparent but non-reflective material and place as a filter between the negative and glass, thus reducing glare. The sharpness may be lessened, but the glare is also lessened...

8 wires on my subwoofer??

"One has positive and negative input, another positive and negative output (red and black on each)"

Just from your description, it sounds like pos/neg input are the 12 volt pos neg supply for the amp inside the subwoofer. Red is pos, black is neg.

This sounds like it's used if you want to proved 12 volt pos/neg to another component.

"and a third wire with left input right input positive and negative (blue, red, yellow and black)"

This is for the cables coming from the "subwoofer out" on the amp. This is 4 wires altogether -- correct?

I have a 3490 scanner but have lost the neg holder to scan negs.

You really cannot scan a neg without a special holder. I recommend paying $90 to Costco and buying their special USB Scanner which scans one neg at atime! They are great!

Colour code for speaker wires.dont know + from -

I am guessing the cable is figure 8 two cores attached to form a single cable. The core with the line down it is very often the - and the plain the + however it is irrelevant, as long as the cable that is connected to the source, CD, or whatever, the colour that goes to + there, must go to + at the speaker terminals, likewise the - must be connected in the same way neg to neg. This follows for ALL the speakers connected to the system as if you get a pos+ connected to a neg- it will cause the speakers to be "Out of Phase" and could cause sound distortion. Rule of thumb, without any stripes or line black, is usually negative -

Description of Wires

318lawless- these wires are the speaker outputs,the white is left front positive and the white with the black strip is left front negative. grey right front positive, the grey/black is neg. the purple is right rear,purple black neg.green is left rear,green black isneg. Canon AE-1 with Program

Have you change with a new battery?

Or check the battery with a DVM(digital volt meter).

Or get some batteries and connect in series to equal to that voltage and use two wire leads. One lead to -negative side of the battery, other lead to +positive. Now, -neg to neg of camera and +pos to pos of camera.

You now have power to the camera to test. This will save money rather than buying the camera's battery for testing. AA, C or D will work, just look on the camera's battery to see the right voltage.

Examples: with two batteries (1.5VDC + 1.5VDC = 3..0VDC). So -(negative) of one battery to + (positive) of the second battery with solder.

-(-neg, battery, pos+) solder to -(neg, 2nd battery, pos+)+

left side , use black wire on -(Neg) and solder
right side, use red wire on +(Pos) and solder.

Now you have two leads, use those to connect to camera.
