I guess he means the DVD ROM Drive is dead.
his typo RAM is ROM. ok>?
no OS stated, XP will love to fail any SATA device.
endless chips not supported.
no PC even stated, nor OS stated,
any answers will be wrong, lacking such KEY FACTs.
for sure back to FEB,2018

my guess is he runs the virus magnet XP
and the endless Infamous upper and lower filters are dead.
next time POST the OS.
then tell what fails, the DVD drive fails. sure it does
on XP, many do, as XP has horrible support on DVD drives.
for sure newer one.
XP is now dead.
XP has no support for most SATA chips and USB and Optical media, all newer chips and devices XP does NOT SUPPORT
nor will it ever support vast things new.
its 17 years old now. and support ended long ago.

Hi, the error code that you have is a known issue from Microsoft that needs a registry tweaks. Error code means "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (code 39)". You can click on this link for your reference http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us

To resolve this problem, remove the affected filter drivers. To do this, follow these steps:1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

This will surely help you resolve your issue. Good Luck!!!

Thanks

Hi can't read any DVD or CD anymore I got Windows 7 HL DT ST DVD Ram GSA T50N Ata

First check in bios under boot device priority if cd dvd drive is listed or not, if not then reseat the dvd drive, if yes the follow the steps.
1. Uninstall the cd dvd drive from device manager and also ATA Channel0 and ATA Channel1 and restart the compter, and then check.
2. If the above step doesnt resolve your issue then
In the run box type regedit, go to HKEY LOCAL MACHINE - SYSTEM - Control Set001 - Control - Class - {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} - On the right hand side check for upper or lower filters if you find one delete it.
Do the same with Control Set002 and Current Control set.
Restart the computer and you will see the issue is resolved for sure.

HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H55N ATA Device doesn't work

That's most likely your upper/lower filters, or drivers acting up.
Try drivers first, as they are easier and faster to fix. Go to device manager under system properties, and uninstall the device and reinstall it.
If it doesn't work delete the upper and lower filters:
Press windows and R keys type in "regedit" and press enter

double click on "computer" on the new window that came up
double click on "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
double click on "SYSTEM"
double click on "CurrentControlSet"
double click on "Control"
double click on "Class"
double click on "{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

My Cd-Rom doesnt work for my Acer Notebook 2930

Did it give any error code, like Error code 39? And does the DVD/CD Drive appear in My Computer?

Normally the CD drives use the default Windows drivers. Try right clicking the HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA T50N ATA Device in Device Manager and choose uninstall. Then reboot the computer and Windows will find the device and re-install drivers automatically.

If you are still getting the error, it may be an update or some other program that added data to the DVD's driver data in the registry. Try this:

1) Close all open programs

2) Click on Start, Run, and type "regedit" (without the quotations) and press Enter. Back up (File > Export) the registry before you make any changes)

3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  • SYSTEM
  • CurrentControlSet
  • Control
  • Class
  • Left Click and Highlight: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} **Make sure you choose this exact key**
4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

  • UpperFilters
  • LowerFilters
  • UpperFilters.bak
  • LowerFilters.bak
5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed on the right hand side, right-click on them and choose Delete

6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor

7) Reboot your computer

8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
