Hi there, In my experience, Norton Ghost is the fastest cloning software. If you want a true clone of a large hard drive, it's not physically possible to do it in less than 15 minutes. There are a few things you can do to speed it up though. If you're cloning to an image or another hard drive, write it to a local hard drive within the computer. SATA to SATA transfers are always the fastest, so try and avoid using USB. Ghost really is the best tool for cloning hard drives and it can be very fast when done internally on a computer. You can use a hard-disk cloning application. Examples of this are Acronis True Image and Norton Ghost. There are shareware versions of these applications, like what you will find below:

These applications can make an exact copy of your HDD, even make a proportional partition (if your original HDD has more than one partition).

However, an external hard-drive should _ONLY_ be used to make an _ADDITIONAL_ copy of your important files. It should _NOT_ be used to store the _ONLY_ copy of some files -- if/when the drive fails, the _ONLY_ copy of those files will be _GONE_. Not good!

Instead, it's time to purchase an additional "internal" disk-drive, which will be _NEWER_ and _LARGER_ and _WARRANTIED_ and to use software to "clone" your old hard-drive onto your new hard-drive.

Then, disconnect the old, out-of-warranty, disk-drive, and boot Windows from the new disk-drive.

Then, purchase an EMPTY disk-drive enclosure, for about $30,
install your old disk-drive into the enclosure, to build your own external storage device. Once you're satisfied that your new "clone" disk-drive is working 100% correctly, delete all the files from the OLD disk-drive, and then make a backup of your files onto the now-empty disk-drive.

Download Hiren's disk and on teir their are heaps of cloning tools. My favourit is Nortons Ghost. This will make an image of your hard drive and burn them onto a dvd for you and once you have done that install your new HD, boot of the Hirens disk, start Nortons ghost then burn the image of your old HD onto the new one and then you can continue your computing from where you left off from.

This may not work because of the different hardware that's used in the laptops.
Saying that what you could do is clone the working operating system onto the C700's hard drive using Norton Ghost.
This beauty bit of software is great for backing up your operating systems to other hard drives just in case the worst happens.

Make new disks from the 60G HD before replacing it. If there is no restore partition then you will need to clone your old drive.
You need a HDD cloning software like Norton Ghost, a usb 2.5" drive enclosure.

I'm guessing that your question is why does my new 160G hard drive only show up as a 40G. When you use Norton Ghost to make an image of your hard drive, there were several questions it asked. One was whether you wanted to make an image of the whole partition. When this is selected Ghost acts like a camera and takes a picture of your old drive, partitions and all. When you put this image on a new drive it puts on exactly that a picture of your old (40G) drive. I have never been successful a trying to expand an image. As long as the old drive is still good you could start the process over and make an image of just your data, then format the 160G drive, reinstall Windows and place the data image on the new drive. You will have to reinstall the applications.

Macrium Reflect is one method, it can "clone" your hard drive to another hard drive without having to re-install any of your programs.

You will never be able to copy all the files from windows.

Here is my suggestion.

Their are several programs out their to help you accomplish a disk to disk copy. I personally use Norton Ghost. Action True image is another.

This particular program i have found extremely reliable.is Norton Ghost 2003. This is a hard drive cloning software that runs from dos.

When you are running windows, you cant copy by drag and drop, all the files. Windows just wont let you move the important files.

You could purchase norton ghost 2007. That software is designed to work from windows. You can install it and then clone the running drive onto the new fresh drive.

After you clone the drive, you can just set it to "active" and switch the boot order in the bios. Or just unplug the old drive.

I can assist you in getting a copy of norton ghost dos edition, and clone the drive. However it would require direct connection to your pc, and phone support to walk you threw it once your into dos.

the only thing I can sugest is upgrade norton ghost or use another disk imaging program I use powerquest drive image this works with usb support this program is better than norton ghost I've used it on my laptop and pc backups as on my pc I do alot of editing and all editing software takes 15 gig and 4 hours to install with this it only takes 1 hour to recover all drive info. hope this helps
