MP3 players can only play music files in mp3 file format. You can download mp3 music files from the Internet to your computer and then copy them to your MP3 player using the USB cable. For your CD collection, you need to convert your CDs to mp3 music files onto your computer or download them from the Internet and then copy them to your MP3 player after you have connected the USB cable to the MP3 player and the computer.
You can do this using Windows Media player and Rip the CDs - Media Player will create a MP3 music file for each music track. Click on this link for instruction on converting music files to mp3 file format :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r5798418-creating_transferring_mp3_music_files

sEVERAL POSSIBILITIES:
* You downloaded protected music on your Windows 98/98SE, Windows 2000, Windows XP computer using Windows Media Player 9. Music was purchased online or the music was ripped form your own audio CD with Copyright Protection turned ON.
o You must use Windows XP and Windows Media Player 10 for online purchased songs.

Why do i get format error when i put songs from a cd on the eclipse?

Hi,

1. Why do i get format error when i put songs from a cd on the eclipse?
= This is probably because the format that your songs are currently in is not supported by your device. Supported devices on the Mach Speed Eclipse 180 MP3 player are: mp3, wav, and wma. If your music is for example filename.cda, it won't be able to play because of the file format being .cda.

2. I also see the song on the eclipse but it says drm protected and will not play the song.
= When ripping your music, check your ripping options in whichever ripping software you are using that protecting music files is off, this may be the reason why your music cannot play - it may be protected to only play on the computer that ripped(recorded or duplicated) the song.

My coby 828 mp3 won't list the songs or artists in alphabetical order, how can i get them in alphabetical order?

I don't know your mp3 player specifically, but it's a common issue with the cheaper players that they only display music in alphabetical order of the filename; and to make matters worse, the filename used is the "8.3 filename" (see wikipedia) rather than the long filename.

To establish if this is the case with your player, get a small selection of tracks and name them 001, 002, etc. (preserve the extension, whatever it is), copy them to the player and see if they play in the order of the numbers.

If you find that this technique works to allow you to control the order of play, you will want a more convenient way to manage a larger number of songs. I suggest using a free program called "MRename" by rajko (google for "rajko mrename"). Install this program.

1. To simplify things, copy the songs you want to a special folder for the purpose, because you're going to mess with the filenames.

2. Select all the songs, right click, and choose "MRename --recursion:OFF".

3. Use a select mask of *1 which will select all of them.

4. Use a rename mask of \N301.mp3 (replace 'mp3' if appropriate). This creates names of "N"umbers, "3" digits, with leading "0"s, starting from "1", and adds ".mp3" at the end as a literal.

5. At this point, you can actually move your tracks around in the renaming program... this is where you choose your play order! When you're happy, click "rename all" and it will be done.

6. Copy the tracks to the player, ensuring that they're the only ones on there, and they should play in the order you wanted.

My player (sansa clip 2gb)won't read tags (artist, album ...)

You check your songs from your computer first; Right click on one of songs, select Properties, select Summary tab (check Artist, Album Title, and Title). If they are there, you should update new firmware (search SANDISK FORUM from google). If they are empty, it's right for device display the filename.

Cant put songs on

You need to be a little more specific. Your computer says it can't read the MP3 player? Do you mean Windows Media player says that or what? What is the actual error you get, word for word?

make sure what your putting on is MP3 or unprotected WMA files. If the light is blinking, then it means its playing the song, if you hear nothing, the audio is not in the correct format.

Are the songs names too long. Meaning that if the filename of the song is too long then possibly mp3 player wont recognize them. Try short names instead of gunsandrosesnovemberrain.mp3
november_rain.mp3

this normally happens when using limewire or another p2p music source try itunes or rapsody

Error when trying to copy files to or delete files from ilo 1gb mp3 player

The Walmart/Asda mp3 players in the uk have the same problem, I have the formatting software on the cdrom that came with it and it doesn't work 'Surprise'. The problem normally happens when you try to either upload mp3's more than one at a time or delete all at the same time causing a file the folder to become corrupt and stop everything. Is there possibly a factory reset menu on the player, if not you will have to search the internet for your manufacturer to see if they have an on-line formating tool.
