Onkyo AV Receiver turning off - by its self.

Just purchased an Onkyo AV Receiver TX-SR506 and had it set up professionally in conjunction with a new TV and surround sound.

It performed beautifuuly for three days then after an hour of operation it turned off automatically.

Tried turning on - turned its self off within about 4 to 5 seconds. this happened over and over.

I let it stand for an hour or so then turned it back on - it then turned itself off after about 5 minutes........I turned it on again- turned itself off in 4 - 5 seconds.

Is it possible that I allowed inadequate height for ventilation ?.....I had allowed 45 mm on top of unit but have now increaed to 90 mm.

I am now waiting a while (and holding my breath) before turning it on again.

Would much appreciate your advice.

Thanking you
Peter Forrell

The space you have provided should be enough. If this is a new unit and still under warranty, I would request warranty service. It sounds like the unit is entering protect mode. This may be due to heat or it could be because of a defect in the protect circuit. In any case, this should not happen that quickly.

Update this if not under warranty and I'll provide a list of diagnostic tests to help determine the problem.

My Onkyo TX-SR506 plays cable and CD inputs to zone 2, but DVD won't play. Everything is connected according to the manual and I assigned zone 2 output correctly. What gives?

How are your cable and cd inputs hooked up? Analog connections? Alot of receivers cannot send an audio signal from hdmi inputs to zone 2.

Should i use an amplifier with the txsr506. i dont know if im doing anything right with the receiver. i feel like its two low on volume

It HAS amplifiers. You don't daisy-chain amps.

Get the manual and take some of the gueswork out of the process. Set it up and come back with specific questions.

Register and download the manual for free at retrevo.com

I have a Av receiver tx-sr506,and it has these proble, the standby led is flashing and when turn on it goes back to the flashing standby mode, can i have any idea to fix it or any tech who can fix it.

The flashing indication is telling you to seek professional help. You have have a short circuit in your output stage and your Onkyo is going into protection mode to prevent further damage. The least you can do is to switch off speaker A and B and try switching on the Receiver. If the then the system turns on you have an external shorting in the speaker wire or speaker itself.

I need to know if it is possibly to plug an iPod into my ONKYO AV RECEIVER TX-SR506?

Yes it is. The easiest way to go about this is to get a stereo mini male to left and right male rca cable. Connect the stereo mini end into your ipod, and the left and right male RCA end into an available input on your reciever. Change the input on the reciever to correspond with the input you connected to. Ensure your ipod is powered on and playing with the volume turned up. This set up will play through your reciever but will not charge your ipod. If you want it to charge while playing, than you will need to get a dock.

I have an onkyo tx-sr506 and the system shuts off as I turn up the volume. It doesn't get very loud (barely audible) before shutting off.

Check speakers for distorted or dead drivers . Disconnect and repair. receiver will blown if not disconnected.

I have a onkyo tx-sr506 receiver that turns it self off

This unit is in protect mode. This means that a problem was detected and the unit has shutdown to prevent further damage. The most common cause of this is failed output transistors. Plan on $20-$40 for parts for this repair.

Muffled sound from rear speakers why watching TV

switch the HDMI cables around to make sure its not one of them, if the problem is one of them it will move with the cable,if no change i would suspect the coaxial cable next.
