You need to run the software provided with the unit. Connect the unit using the provided "crossover" network cable to a PC, this is wired slightly different to a standard network cable so make sure you have the right one - there are many sites that will explain crossover cables and give wiring diagrams.
Go through the setup program and choose the option to use the device as a bridge.

hmmmm. Just had some trouble proving this method because it had been previously used as an access point. It needs a few more steps.
    1. Plug in the smc2870w.
    2. Connect to router using normal network cable
    3. Run software on another computer connected to router & select when option appears, change to bridge mode. The Unit will swap to the bridge firmware, (takes a few minutes) then it will restart and you can go through setup again.
    4. set it up in infrastructure, DCHP mode and enter the SSID of your router. now you are ready to connect it to the device you wish to become wirelessly connected.
    5. Remove the smc2870w from the router and connect it to the device to be bridged using the crossover cable.
If it doesn't work straight away try powering down the devices and restarting them to allow the network to reset.

How to resolve Xbox 360 disc read errors. Xbox will not play disc.

Is your xbox360 having trouble reading disc? In this guide I will provide some common solutions to help you fix your disc read issues.

1)Remove any memory devices or usb flash drives.
2)If the disc you are using is excessively scratched, this can cause the xbox to have trouble reading the disc. You can use a damp soft cloth to try and clean the disc. Grab the disc by the edges and using a soft damp cloth lightly wipe the disc from the center going outward.

3)Try removing your Xbox hard drive and then play a disc. Turn off the console. Locate the hard drive on the top of your system(depending on how you have it positioned). Press the release button on the hard drive.

If your system can read disc without the hard drive attached then you may need to replace the drive.

4)Clear the Xbox360 cache. Clearing the cache may remove updates to certain games. Keep this in mind.
Go to System Settings in the My Xbox menu. Select Memory, highlight your storage device and select Clear System Cache. Try and play the disc.

If after the above steps you are still having trouble. You may want to contact Microsoft Xbox live support to have your system serviced. You can find the support information in the link below,

Is there a driver for the SMC2870W and Mac OS X?

This is a standard wireless ethernet bridge and does not need a special driver for MAC OS. It is a Plug n Play device and should self configure using TCP/IP . Here is the manual : http://www.manualslib.com/manual/154817/Smc-Networks-Smc2870w.html?page=20#manual. Your Mac should see the wireless signal. You could use Safari browser to configure if needed. Apparently the Configuration utility is for older windows systems up to XP. You may need some networking skills to do the configuration without it. Good luck.

How come on my Elgato Game capture HD for mac i can never get audio comming through my computer on any system

1) Make sure your game console is set to output audio via the cables you are using.

Solution: The PlayStation 3 (PS3), Xbox 360, and other game consoles have various options for audio output. Make sure you have selected the right audio output option for Elgato Game Capture HD to use.

When using the PS3 with Elgato Game Capture HD, make sure you set the Audio Output settings to Audio Input Connector / SCART / AV MULTI

You can refer to this article for more details:

http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/audiooutput.html

When using the Xbox 360, you can refer to this article:

http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/audio-video-setup-and-use/configure-audio-settings

For an HDMI connection with your Xbox 360, try these settings:

1) Start the Xbox 360 console without a disc in the disc tray.
2) Go to Settings and select System.
3) Select Console Settings, and then select Audio.
4) Select Digital Output, and then select Digital Stereo My Elgato Game Capture HD doesn

I have been able to connect to Xbox Live for the past month and a half without any problem... Now it wont connect, but it says that it has internet access. All of our computers and our Wii gaming system is...

I have trouble connecting from time to time, and when I do, I restore the network configuration to the factory settings. To do this, go to My Xbox -> Network Settings -> Wired/Wireless Network (whichever you are using) -> Configure Network. Go to the Additional Settings tab, and then down to Restore to Factory Defaults. Click "Yes, restore to factory defaults." Note that it won't touch any of your game data, only the network settings, so the warning it gives is nothing to be concerned about. This may or may not work for you, but it's definitely worth a shot. If all else fails, just call Xbox (1-800-4-MY-XBOX [US]) and they should be able to sort you out.
Hope this helps!

Alright my girlfriend just got an xbox and she has everything set up, but she cant connect to live because a text pops up that says that it requires an update but she said that it has said that 5 times....

The easiest way to update your console software is to connect to Xbox LIVE. To update your console by using Xbox LIVE, all you need is an Internet connection.
  1. Connect your Xbox 360 console to the Internet. To learn how, please see How to connect to Xbox LIVE.
  2. On the console, go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.
  3. Select Network Settings.
  4. Select Wired Network or the name of your wireless network, if you are prompted to do so.
  5. Select Test Xbox LIVE Connection.
  6. Select Yes if you are prompted to update the console software.

If you receive a connection error, try using the Xbox LIVE Connect Solution.

Console update did not install successfully?

If her system says that she needs an update then likely her connection should be getting to Live. You might need to clear her cache first and then try the steps above. Here is how you will clear your cache:

To clear the system cache

  1. Go to My Xbox, and then select System Settings.
  2. Select Memory.
  3. Highlight any storage device, and then press Y on your controller.
(It doesn't matter which storage device you select; the cache will be cleared for all storage devices.)
  4. Select Clear System Cache.
  5. When prompted to confirm storage device maintenance, select Yes:

Hello my xbox cant seem to load any online matches (in games such as COD 6 and Gears 2). I have changed the nat type to open and checked the xbox live connect many times and when it does find a match, it...

Hello there!

Well since you managed to find match on game you wanted, connected and experienced lag in game, there is surely not any problem with your console or game settings, there is only one possibility left, and that could be your uplink.
Check your internet settings, cables , their connections, and from my own personal experiences with those similar devices you should have at least 1mbit/sec consistant internet link.
Thats about it.

Link Your Console to Another Console

Console-to-Console Connection: Wireless Some Xbox games offer console-to-console, or system-link, play, in which two or more players (depending on the game) can wirelessly network their consoles for multiplayer use. Console-to-console wireless networks are also known as ad-hoc networks. In ad-hoc networks, a wireless adapter on one device connects directly to a wireless adapter on another device. An Internet connection isn't shared with this type of network, and the console-to-console connection is typically temporary. For console-to-console play, you need: Two Xbox 360 consoles. Two Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapters. An Xbox 360 game that supports system link play. To wirelessly connect your console to another console: Attach an Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter to the back of each console as described in Use Your Xbox 360 Wireless Networking Adapter. On each console, go to the System area to enter your network settings. (They will be the same for each console.) If all settings are correct, exit the System area. The consoles should now be wirelessly connected to each other.
