Can't print on transparency film

On my Hp 8500 there was a setting for transparency film as a type of paper and the ability to make extra dark blacks for them. On my 8600 I can not find any way of telling the printer I want to use transparency film at all and the blacks come out mottled and terrible. HELP!

In order to print on transparency film from a HP8600 all you have to do is load the paper rough side down with the white border going into the tray toward the back of the printer so that you can not see it when you look into the paper tray. The HP 8600 will auto-adjust for the film, that is why you do not have the option to select transparency like you did in the HP 8500

SOURCE: when I try to print on a 6x6 envelope on my hp envy 110 printer it tells me it is the wrong size paper. No where is there a setting for a 6x6

Print labels and envelopes

With the HP ENVY 110 series, you can print on a single envelope, a group of envelopes, or label sheets
designed for inkjet printers.

To print a group of addresses on labels or envelopes

1. Print a test page on plain paper first.
2. Place the test page on top of the label sheet or envelope, and hold both up to the light. Check the spacing for
each block of text. Make adjustments as needed.
3. Load the labels or envelopes into the paper tray.
CAUTION: Do not use envelopes with clasps or windows. They can get stuck in the rollers and cause
paper jams.
4. Slide paper-width guides inward against the stack of labels or envelopes until the guides stop.
5. Select the appropriate options.
• On -Paper/Quality- tab select a Plain paper type.
• Click the [Advanced] button, and select the appropriate envelope size from the Paper Size drop down
menu.
6. Click [OK], and then click [Print] or [OK] in the Print dialog box.

If you print from within a program that DOES have that listed (like M$ Word,) then you don't need the limited printer driver to specify the paper size.

      • For thinner paper, select Light , Thin , or Vellum .
      • For thicker paper, select Heavy or Thick .
NOTE:HP does not recommend the use of heavily textured paper, extremely thin paper, or paper with a basis weight heavier than 90 g/m2 (24 lb).
  4. Make sure the paper or media type setting is appropriate for the fuser temperature.NOTE:Unlike ink printers, laser printers use heat to fuse a plastic toner to the surface of the paper. Make sure to use heat-resistant paper, and labels and envelopes that use adhesives compatible with the heat and pressure of the product's fusing process.
    1. If you are experiencing any issues in the following list, adjust the setting.
      • If the paper is curled or wavy , try the following:
        1. Decrease the fuser temperature setting. To do this, select Light ,Thin , or Transparency .
        2. Use the archive print feature to improve toner fusing. To do this, select Archive or Bond .
      • If the printout has areas of fuzzy or dark print , or toner scatter , increase the fuser temperature setting.

      1. Select 600 dpi from the drop-down list.
      2. Select the EconoMode check box.
    • If the entire page is too light , change the dpi setting, and turn off EconoMode .
      1. Select FastRes 1200 from the drop-down list.
      2. Clear the EconoMode check box.
  3. Click Apply , click OK , and then close the Printing Preferences window.

  6. If you are experiencing any issues in the following list, adjust the setting.
    • If the printout has areas of gray shading or a gray background , decrease the print density setting. To do this, slide the bar to the left .
    • If the printout has light, dull or faded areas , increase the print density setting. To do this, slide the bar to the right .
  7. Click Apply , click OK , and then close the Properties window.
  8. Try again to print. If these steps do not resolve the light, dull or faded issue, the print cartridge is almost empty. Skip to Solution eight: Replace the print cartridge .
  • If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting.

Maybe you need to clean the drum, blades or the developer roller. Maybe the problem is in the toner you use.

I am trying to print on vellum paper and my printer will not recognize it. I tried opening up the control panel on my computer and vellum/lightweight/film/transparent are all not options for paper types. ...

The printer has no ability to know the paper type, this setting happens in SOFTWARE, like Word. Then the command is sent to the printer, more commonly you would change papertype for photo printing....Look in the software, and not the printer itself.

Use this item to configures the fuser mode associated
with each media type.
Change the fuser mode only if you are experiencing
problems printing on certain types of media. After you
select a type of paper, you can select a fuser mode
that is available for that type. The available selections
might include some or all of the following modes:
NORMAL: Used for most types of paper.
HIGH 1: Used for rough paper.
LOW: Used for transparencies.
HIGH 2: Used for paper that has a special or rough
finish.
The default fuser mode is NORMAL for all print media
types except transparencies (LOW), and rough paper
(HIGH 1).
CAUTION
Do not change the fuser mode for transparencies.
Failure to use the LOW setting while printing
transparencies can result in permanent damage to
the printer and fuser. Always select Transparencies
as the Type in the printer driver and set the tray type
at the printer control panel to TRANSPARENCY.
When selected, RESTORE MODES resets the fuser mode
for each media type back to its default setting.
Hope this helps
