My Dell Vostro 1400 charger is plugged in, The battery will not charge but the computer will still run... what could cause this? My computer came up with a black screen that said it does not recognize the charger or something. Its the same charger ive used for the year ive owned the computer.
The center of the connetor for the AC adapter to the system has a very fine wire that is the sensing wire for the battery charger. It ID's the type adapter connected to the system. If the wire is bent or broken, the system cannot ID the adapter and the battery charger will not function.
If the wire is bent or broken, then replace the AC adapter. ALso try a different adapter and see if the issue occurs with it. If the issue happens with more than one adapter or if this adapter functions normmaly on another system, then the motherboard will need to be replaced.
Maybe you should replace the AC Adapter or the laptop battery.
You can search them in Google.com or ask your friends recommend for you.
If replace the battery, i can recommend a website, you can visit it and see how about.

Your battery may be damaged. It is recommended that you replace a new battery for your laptop. This is the shop I ever bought one at and it works well till now.http://www.akkus-laptop.com/dell-vostro-1400-akku.html

same problem...my dell vostro 1400 already out of warranty
same exact problem. I got a new charger, worked fine at firstm and after a week it happened again...
I have the same problem and Dell sent a replacement for the computer end of the charger. That didn't work so they sent someone out to replace the motherboard. That didn't work so now they want me to send my computer back to them and provided a mailing box for me. They can't tell me how long they will have it.
Should have gotten a Mac.
Can't I just to see if the batteries will charge take the charger Jack and clamp the wires on the bat and plug it in to see if it will charge?
