I bought a stolen Garmin Nuvi 260. How can I reset the PIN? :-)
What will happen if I'll try several PIN's? Will it disable the Garmin Nuvi?
I think the true purpose of the pin is for another income stream to garmin they want $110 to unlock it. If not then why not just register a pin when you register for the warranty then just use your MY GARMIN to get it when you need it???
You cannot reset the PIN. The whole purpose of the PIN is to prevent someone from using a stolen GPS. Please return this unit to Garmin.
I can't believe you even admit to owning stolen property.
Yes multiple attempts will lock the garmin, And you will only be able to unlock it by going to the security location that was used when the security pin was input into the system.
Unfortunately, even if you perform master reset on Garmin GPS unit, it does not reset Garmin Lock security feature, which password-protect most Garmin electronic devices to deter theft. If you forget the PIN or password unlock code to unlock the Garmin unit, the best solution is to bring it to Garmin to get unlocked. “Secure Location” does not unlock a locked Garmin unit either as it’s only a temporary fix as when it’s turn on outside the security location, the device is locked again."
So unfortunately, there is only one option: You have to send your nüvi into the Garmin, who can unlock it. Remember original receipt.

Lemme rephrase the question without :-). I bought a Garmin Nuvi 260 at BestBuy (me don't have stolen GPS, actually). I set up a PIN. In case someone got my GPS, how many times someone enter their guessed PIN? I acually tried to crack my own Garmin Nuvi, once it lock up or screen frozen, I simply press RESET and ON button and there's the PIN prompt back again...
sharcnet, did you read my first post and second post completely? Please re-read it then make your suggestion.
In my second post I typed a hyphothetical question! If will emulate someone who wouldn't know my PIN by trying to guess the PIN for as many times I can, I might finally be able to guess it because I'll simply RESET it and try again...
Now my question is, why Garmin didn't make the Nuvi GPS to be totally disabled after trying to guess the PIN for may be 10 times!
Your entire post makes no sense.....
If you really bought it at Best Buy, then return it to Best Buy and exchange it for an unlocked unit.
There is no way to defeat the PIN and if you send it back to Garmin and its discovered to be stolen, Garmin will contact the authorities.
