This problem was solved by turning off the unit and unplugging the power overnight. The next morning it worked fine.

Mf6500 imageclass - when i make copies, i get fat blurry black blobs, which go from left to right. i have changed the toner cartridge three (3) times. is it the drum?

From my recollection the drum is a part of the toner cartridge in this printer so having changed that 3 times, it would not be at fault. I believe your machine has a worn/torn fixing film which is in the fuser assembly. That is the heated area where the paper goes through before exiting the printer. There is no quick fix other than replacement.

Canon Imageclass MF6500 Series Copier with Blank Copies Prints Problem

This tip works on all Canon Imageclass 6500 series machines including the MF6500 MF6530 MF6531 MF6540 MF6550 MF6560 MF6580 MF6590 and MF6595.
First of all if you are experiencing blank copies and or prints the best thing to do is try a different toner cartridge. In rare cases the black copies/prints CAN be caused by a defective cartridge. In MOST cases it is caused by a broken or detatched laser shutter lever or arm. When a toner cartridge is inserted and the door closed, a small plastic arm opens the laser shutter. If this arm is broken or has become disconnected then the shutter is not opened. This blocks the laser from writing the copy or print image onto the drum and this results in no print being applied to the paper. If the arm is broken you CAN open the laser shutter manually and block it open. What you need to do it open the cartridge access door, remove the cartridge and look for a 1/2 inch wide slot running from left to right in the metal frame that is in the back upper section where the cartridge goes. The plastic arm that operates the black plastic shutter is on the right side. If broken you can manually lift up the shutter and "block" it open using something like a folded up scrap of paper. I know it sounds strange but I have used this repair on several of my customers machines and they have all worked fine since. If you can not find or effect the repair yourself at least you will know where to point the service person when they come out to look at it.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

I have bought 2 OEM canon X 25 toner. They print came out blur and patches.

Hi,
do you mean that on the printed/copied picture the toner isnt "baked" and it smudges down?

If thats the case that means that you have fixing film problems and the cartridges are OK.

Hope that helps!

Hi

I hope you still have your copier and have not yet sent it in. I had the same problem and when I called Canon Tech support, they told me to go buy a new CANON brand toner cartridge that costs from $150 to $180 each to see if it would fix the problem. Obviously, if this did not fix the problem, I cannot return the toner for a refund. I was using a knock off brand that cost me $40.

I found that the problem is a metal shutter that is inside the machine behind the toner cartridge. It is a metal shutter about 1/4 inch by 4 inches that moves up and down to protect the user from the laser. Your shutter is not moving up out of the way of the laser. What I did was grab the center of this shutter with a hemostat (or long thin pliers) so that it bends this shutter just a little bit, then I pushed the shutter upwards with a butter knife. This little bend in the metal shutter causes the shutter to stay in an upright position by friction of metal on metal. Now it copies fine, even with an offbrand toner cartridge. It saved me hundreds of dollars on repairs or replacement parts.

I think that Canon tech knows about this, but they make more money when they replace a whole new laser unit for you or charge you for repairs.
