If your TV has the screw-on coaxial cable connection on the back, then you will not need a converter box. You can attach an internal or external antenna and have your TV scan for digital channels. The converter boxes are mostly for old CRT TVs with analog tuners or newer home theater "monitor" TVs which are being produced without built in tuners.

SOURCE: Don't know where the antenna input is on my tv

You can download the manual for this TV from Sanyo here:

http://www.sanyotv.com/CLT2054%20(E)%205071--.pdf

It has all the hookup information for you.

All the input jacks are on the rear of the set, and they are pretty clearly labeled.

You can connect the converter box two ways. One is to use the RF output from the converter to the antenna input on the rear of the TV. Then set the TV to channel 3 or 4, depending on the converter box setting.

The second method, which is better, is to connect the direct video and audio outputs from the converter box to one of the TV's A/V inputs. The cable you need is usually supplied with the converter box. Just follow the color-coded jacks at both ends: red and white for right and left channel audio, yellow for video. Then set the TV to that source. This will give better quality picture and sound from the box.

Please take a moment to rate this solution if it has helped you. Thanks for asking here!

SOURCE: I need to hook up to digital cable

Thank you for your time.
I turned on the router supplied by Verizon, which I did not do yesterday, I'm embarrassed to say....
I called Sanyo and received step by step how to set up.
It was the same procedure I used yesterday with the exception of making sure the router was on,

I apologize for any inconvenience.

Sanyo tv model DS31520..is it an HD tv?

You can view the specifications here:

I found no mention of the needed ATSC digital tuner so you need to acquire a converter box to receive broadcast signals after the changeover. Cable and satellite reception are not affected.
I reviewed the available converters and chose the Zinwell ZAT-970.

My ge tv digital ready?

Your TV is NOT digital ready. IF you do not have cable or satellite, you will need a converter box. If you do have cable or satellite you have nothing to do or worry about as the cable or satellite box will automatically do the conversion for you. Hope this helps

Sanyo DS31590 and converter box

I just checked the owners manual online. Looks like this model only has an NTSC analog tuner. No ATSC digital tuner built in.

If you use cable or satellite TV services, the digital converters won't help you. The coupon-eligible ones are strictly for use with a traditional antenna. If this is your situation, ignore the remainder of this message.

If you use a regular TV antenna with this TV, then, yes, you will need a converter box. FYI, the Insignia model at Best Buy and the Zenith at Circuit City, and elsewhere (radio shack) have gotten good reviews from early purchasers. More converter box models will be available in a few months time.

If your current reception with your antenna is poor (snowy), you may have problems receiving the new DTV signals. If not, you should be pleasantly surprised with the quality of the DTV signals - and the extra "virtual" channels. Try the converter box using the RCA video and audio inputs, for a slightly better picture than with the coaxial cable inputs.

Good Luck

Digital signal conversion

If you have cable TV, satellite TV, or FIOS, the coupon eligible converter boxes aren't needed and aren't useful with those services.
They gov't coupon converter boxes are only good for reception with a regular TV antenna or rabbit ears.

According to the specs on epinions.com, no, this TV does not have a digital tuner. So, if you use a rooftop TV antenna (not satellite dish) or an indoor TV antenna, you WILL need an ATSC to NTSC converter box. You need not wait until next year, however, as most U.S. TV stations are also broadcasting digital (ATSC) now.

Need converter box

Not if you have cable TV, satellite TV, or FIOS. If so, a converter won't do anything for you. Not needed.

If, however, you only use a regular TV antenna or rabbit ears, you will need a converter box as this model TV only has an NTSC analog tuner built in.
