    Inverter works fine, only do not charge the chassis batteries. It is an 11 year old unit and it is in a fleetwood coach. Coach batteries seem to be ok.

    We bout a fleet-wood expedition with the same problem. going back to see if the dealer can fix.

OK my 2000 Discovery does the same thing. Try and hit the inverter charger with your fist 3-4 times, then listen and see if the charger fan starts up. I will be bringing my inverter to Portland this week to have the tech look at it. The other thing is it could be the transfer switch. Will let you know.

    When the remote panel shows a red battery state, the DC amps are < 10, and the fan isn't running even when power in is applied, that says the unit is not charging. I recently had the same problem with my Freedom Marine 25, and the culprit was a blown relay (blackened burn spot) on the AC sensing card, which was $400 parts and labor at a Xantrex authorized service center. Being reasonably competent in electrical matters, I uninstalled the 50 lb beast, carried it in, and reinstalled it myself. If you can get somebody to sell you one you *could* replace the card yourself, but it took a trained service tech an hour on a test bench to do it, so for my money, not worth the effort and the risk that it might not fix the problem. Just be very careful; one wired misplaced on reinstall and you could fry the entire unit.

Loosing power

You need to add up all of the loads connected to the inverter. A 120watt load at 120 volts equals a load of 10 amps at 12 volts.
Watts= VoltsXAmps.
Add to that any other load on the battery - radio, lights, etc. and the standard vehicle battery will be dead in a short time. You need to either have a bank of large batteries, such as two or three group 27 batteries in parallel, or you need to keep the van running so the alternator can keep the battery charged.

Is there a bench test for the Xantrex freedom 458 inverter/charger?

My experience has been thay there is no real "bench test" available to the general public. You can do some testing if you are familiar with how to read the color codes on resistors, and know how to test relays. There are two fuses inside, so you can check their continuity. Before going to this trouble though, get on line and download the Xantrex trouble shooting guide, bulletin No. 512-0084001-01 rev1. If that is ok, it'll be a trip to the dealer, where you'll learn that it costs about $400 to replace the board. I'm on my second one, in two years, so they aren't a long life article I'm afraid.Hope this is helpful for you.

Freedom Combi inverter/charger stopped working with the remote inside the RV. Replaced remote but still didn't work. I have to press inverter button inside RV, go to inverter outside RV and press...

Sounds like the link between the inverter and the remote is bad. Chaffed wire, broken wire, etc may be the culprit.

You should still have the shorting jumper that came with the Freedom. Put the jumper into the AUX port, and you should now have local control of the inverter. If so, then replace the wiring between inverter and remote.

The inverter dose not charge the batters on my coach.

From the manual I read on the Xantrex website shows 2 fuses. 1 in the F1 Position which is the outer circuit breaker, and the other in the F2 position. You can see the F1 tube-style fuse from the front, but the F2 fuse you have to tuck your head behind and see it from the other side. You can see if the fuse wire is burnt. To be sure, use an ohm meter to check the continuity of the circuit. Hope that helps.

I am trying to fix my xantrex freedom 10 inverter/charger but I need the internal wiring diagram. Is there I way that I can get it?

Unfortunately, to protect their proprietary designs, Xantrex does not provide parts or schematics except to their factory authorized service network. Assuming it is not still under warranty that would be voided by removing the cover, you might be able to see any obvious damage and procure the necessary repair parts from a third party, but that might be a lot of trouble to track down without any guarantee that it would actually fix the problem. If the unit cannot be uninstalled and/or brought to a service center, some reps do make "house calls", albeit for a fee.

Xantrex 458 freedom....has stopped charging house batteries off of engine alternator. Alternator is showing that it works (dash gauge). It does charge while on shore power or generator....but not charging...

Fis\rst of all is the inverter supplying 120 VAC? when turned on?. If so the inverter seems to be working.I think your problem is in the truck alternator/charging system. The inverter is independent of this charger..
