Brother MFC's usually come with some version of the ScanSoft software. One of it application is called pageviewer. View the fax through page viewer.
Besides, if you faxed from the computer, the original file must be on the computer. Launch a search for it.

SOURCE: brother mfc 8440 "printing" problems

Hi
I recently had this problem - tested fuser and all sensors.
The fix is to reset the memory.
To do this, enter the Maintenance mode. Menu, * 2864
(enter the number quickly)
then type 01 ( zero one ), this will reset all memory including the user settings.
Finally type 99 to exit Maintenance mode.
The printer will restart and the error will be gone. Test out with copy and printer reports
Hoping this fixes your problem
Regards
Lindsay

SOURCE: Brother MFC 210C series ink replaced

The brother machines require ink in all the cartridges as it is always flushing ink through the heads to "clean" it. This means you must have ink in all cartridges at all times unfortunately or the brother will not work. Even if you could somehow get it to work it could damage your printhead anyway.

Good Luck
Please rate my advice, good or bad.

SOURCE: "brother mfc 7840w printer goes offline and i cannot print need turn printer on and off.

The solution, and it took me a long time to find the simple solution, is to right click on your printer, click properties, click the ports tab and click on your Brother printer and click on configure port (or you can delete the existing one and then add another one). What you want to do is update the IP Address. The problem is that the printer does not have a static IP address, it is dynamic. If you want to confirm that, go to your printer and press the reports button and print out the network configuration report. Your IP address will show on that. It's really the last digit in the IP address that changes. This will absolutely solve your problem. Good Luck!

SOURCE: Brother MFC 8220 all-in-one fax prints with a vertical line

First guess is you have a bit of dirt (often white-out from people scanning corrected paper that's not quite dry) stuck on the fax scan window. This should be described pretty well in your user manual (which you can download online from brother.com).

Its also possible that there is dirt (typically loose toner) on the laser scan window (there's a laser that shines through it to get the image pattern on the drum). That window is often along the bottom of the unit under the drum/cartridge (take the cartridge out and look). The Brother manual I've seen seems to ignore this possibility.

Print streaks DO NOT mean cartridge drum replacement in many cases !! On brother Intellifax or MFC or other laser copier/printer/fax, keep in mind that either the fax/copy scan window OR the laser scan window can get dirty. If the fax scan window is dirty, you see streaks on outgoing faxes and copies (but NOT incoming faxes). If the laser scan window is dirty, you see streaks on all prints (copies, faxes, print-from-computer).

Note also that when transporting/moving some laser copier with the toner cartridge inside, the toner can get out and make a big mess inside (including getting the laser scan window dirty). An air compressor can be usefull to blow it out. And sometimes using alcohol to clean is a BAD idea (maybe incompatible with plastic and rubber parts). A damp rag is probably fine.

Thats up to you. request a repair cost and compair it to the cost for a new one. Your choice mfc 9700 is a good unit. Upgrade to a MFC 4100n its one of the best brothers makes. Hope this helps.

Fax machine can send, but not receive. The line has been tested and is fine

You need to make sure that your fax machine's ability to receive an incoming fax has been enabled. Please read your manual and follow the instructions to enable receipt of faxes.

If the problem is w/ windows you need to go to printers or printers/faxes (depending on the windows version) then right click on MFC 9700 then click on cancel all documents

Brother DCP vs MFC

i was came into this as well when looking to buy a printer. after doing some research, from what i can tell the MFC printer/scanners have fax capabilites where the DCP do not. there might be a few other functions the MFC's have the DCP's don't, but Fax is the big seller
DCP stands for Digital Copier/Printer MFC stands for Multi-Function Copier/printer
here's a copmarison of two dcp's against comparable mfc's on newegg with full spec list

Brother MFC 9700

Remove your drum unit and you will see on top of where the drum unit sits inside your machine is a piece of glass(inside the machine). Wipe the glass with a soft dry cloth. If this do not work, remove your toner cartridge and see if the toner is spread evenly on the cartridge.
