Sounds like the thermocouple that senses when the burner ignites is faulty. when the burner is first lit it looks for a signal from the thermocouple telling it that it has ignition. i have had some luck removing the part (furnace off) and sanding it clean. this is located in front of one of the burners..Good luck

iT COULD BE THAT THE THERMOCOUPLE IS BAD AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT. iF YOU HAVE ANY INDICATOR LIGHTS ON THE BOARD THEY MAY TELL YOU WHAT IS WRONG AS WELL. iT REALLY SOUNDS LIKE A THERMOCOUPLE PROBLEM TO ME BECAUSE IF IT DOESN'T SEND A SIGNAL THAT IT HAS FLAME THEN THE UNIT WILL SHUT DOWN THE FLAME. i WUOLD TRY TO REPLACE THE THERMOCOUPLE IF I DIDN'T WANT TO HAVE SOMEONE SERVICE IT. GOOD LUCK...

If I shut off the blower on my gas furnace do I have to shut down the whole furnace

Turn of the system at the thermostat. If you turn off the blower, assuming you mean at the tstat, there's no need to turn off the pilot. If blower is running and won't stop, even if turned off at tstat, turn off power by any means necessary, and pilot does not need to be turned off. A "standing pilot" is made to stay lit at all times, running or not.

Atwood motorhome furnace won't stay lit

I would say this is your electronic ignition system but it sounds like it is not getting gas. This is why they do a 3 time try and shut off. Check you supply line right down to the regulator. Hose could have got partially kinked along the line as well.

Goodman furnace gmh95090cxac wont stay lit keeps clicking will lite then clicks back off what would be the problem

Hello, if the burners light but do not stay on for more than 10 seconds, I would clean the flame sensor. The flame sensor is a metal rod that is on the opposite side of the Igniter, sometimes it gets coated by oxidation and does not sense the burner flame and shuts the Furnace down. To clean to kill power to tje furnace, remove flame sensor and clean with a steel wool, then reinstall and start Furnce back up. If this does not work then most likely the Igniter is too weak to ignite the gas and will have ro be replaced.

Rheem furnace problem wont stay lit

You need to see what it does. Does it light at all? will the pilot stay on? If lights but wont let you release the knob then thermocouple is bad. I
If it is electric start then watch the series of events. enducer fan motor starts, element heats up, gas lights but shuts off after 1 second. 5 seconds 1 minute and so on. Also your computer board on the furnace will flash a code indicating a problem. count the flashes and read the panel on the furnace for help it should give a description of the the errors.
all depends on the age and type of unit. respond if you have more questions .

Flame sensor dirty

Sandpaper lightly scrubbed over the sensor tip to remove any contamination.

Sometimes cleaning is not enough and the sensor must be replaced.

Pilot light wont stay lit.want to clean the orifice

You shut off the gas.
Shut off the power.
Remove the gas valve and burner assembly.
After cleaning and reassembly you must purge the system and use a gas leak detecting soap to verify no leaks before turning on the power.

Heater will fire but wont stay lit.

I assume that you are referring to a natural gas forced air furnace. If so you just described the symptoms of a dirty flame sensor. Remove the sensor with a 1/4" nutdriver. clean the flame sensor with a small piece of fine grit sandpaper or emery cloth. replace the sensor and turn the furnace back on.
Good luck.....
