if the recovery disk would not run to load the program than your hard drive is probably bad have you been into the machine and seen the hard drive have a look at the front where the wires plug in and there is a slot for jumpers to select the hard drive function make sure its set for master only. most hhard drives will not have a jumper for master setting if there is a jumper make sure its set right .

Your pc probably got some sort of virus or malware. Try reinstalling windows or even feel free to call toshiba directly they may know the exact cause.
