Using Linksys WRT54G as router connected to ActionTec with FIOS

I just got FIOS installed and I already had a local network using a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. I would like to keep my local wired network because I have a couple of HP printers that don't have DHCP and need to maintain a fixed address. I also have a Linksys Print Server with one of the printers connected to that. I've tried assigning the ethernet side with DHCP to the ActionTec router and using a different network (192.168.2.1) for my local network on the Linksys and my PC can see it but I can't get out to the internet through the ActionTec. I tried using ActionTec address (192.168.1.1) and the Linksys addresses (192.168.2.1 and the DHCP address assigned from the ActionTec router) with no success. Has anybody else configured this setup? If so,
can you give me instructions on what I have to do? Thanks!

You must keep everything on the same subnet. Only allow the router to be DHCP and keep everything on 192.168.1.x subnet. You are going to have alot of problems talking across subnets

How can I make settings to support DHCP IP assignments and also recognize my manual IP's assigned to the LAN connected devices?

The easiest way I can think of is to shrink the DHCP address pool.

To do that, at least on the model of Actiontec router I have, click on "Network (Home/Office)" the go to the "IP Address Distribution" section of the screen. "DHCP Server" should already be selected, and under that, you'll find "Start IP addresses" and "End IP addresses." Usually, the start will be 192.168.1.2 and the end will be 192.168.1.254. What I usually do is change the start address to 192.168.1.200. That leaves over 50 addresses for normal wireless connections, and I'll general assign IP addresses from the rest of the range as follows:
192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.9: routers, APs, etc.
192.168.1.50 to 192.168.1.59: printers
192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.109 for other static devices. (I often find that Blu-Ray players, cable boxes, etc. behave better if they have a static address.)

But really, on home network, I doubt you'll have more than 15 devices that need static addresses, so you could set the DHCP start address as low as 192.168.1.16 if you wanted to.

On the second router just plug a port cable in from your main routers port into the wan port and then be sure to change the second routers gateway and IP address to a different number. Say that your main router IP is 198.18.1.1 and for your second router IP you could use 10.10.10.1 or what ever combo you want and then you should be able to use both routers together. Is this what you are trying to do?
Linksys routers as well as all routers with DHCP enabled should be able to handle up to 255 separate IP address's for a LAN network. Is the firmware of the Linksys the latest? If not, down load the latest firmware and flash the router to update it. Or, check out third party firmwares like Tomato to flash that tired Linksys and turn it into a real router.

SMC EZ Connect 2862W-G does not see Linksys network

It shows that your wireless router and wireless adapters are both working. One thing to try is changing your wireless channel. Since you are already using 11, try maybe 1 or 9. Check if your SMC adapter will pick up the wireless signal.

By the way, how far is your computer (using the SMC adapter) to your wireless router?

Linking wrt54g with actiontec m1424wr

You need to check the ip address of your actiontec router, the default ip address of linksys router is 192.168.1.1, they should not be the same or else you will not able to connect the router to the internet.

To access the router web configuration

Let me also give you the site on how to add the linksys router to another existing router.

The linksys has 4 LAN port and 1 "Internet" port on the back - we ONLY use the LAN ports NEVER the Internet port - because your existing router is connected to the Internet - your linksys is connected to the LAN
