One possible source of difficulty is there are different blanks for
"slow" recorders (1x - 4x), "high speed" recorders (4x-10x), "ultra speed"
recorders (12x-24x), and "ultra speed +" recorders. The disc manufacturers
had to change the way the discs were made to accommodate each successive
improvement, so older recorders don't work with the newer disks.
It is possible for some 4x-capable "slow" drives to use the "fast" blanks
with a firmware upgrade, but there is no advantage to doing so since you're
still limited to 4x recording (unless, of course, you're unable to find
"slow" CD-RW blanks).
CD-RW discs for the faster drives are labeled with a "High Speed",
"Ultra Speed", or "Ultra Speed +" logos. Make sure you buy the right blanks
for your drive.

Yes it should be able to read any CD including music if you have software to play back music with. There is something wrong with the reading head on your CD player.

If the drive is not working then it will need to be replaced. Check to see if the door opens & lights come on after loading a disc. If they do then it is more likely a driver issue. You can try to uninstall the drive in device manager and then reboot to see if Windows identifies the drive and installs the driver. If the drive is dead then replace with a compatible drive. Hope this helps.
Hi there, as per your information the device working well. But not read CDs. So i suggest you install a CD/DVD Reader or rewriter software.
Because, with out the software your DVD/CD device can't able to read CDs. You can use Nero Express software for solving your problem.
Thanks & waiting for your feedback.
The problem is that at some stage you or someone else forced the cd open or closed, but not to worry, it's not broken. What happened is that the gear that pulls the tray in, mite have slipped a tooth or two. You'll have to open it up. Take the top cover off. It has four small screws holding it. When you take the cover off, the gear system should reveal itself. Now the gear that pulls the cd tray in and out must me ajusted. Before you open the dvd writer, make sure it is in it's utmost closed position. Very Important!. There should be a screw in the centre of this gear. Carefully unscrew completely. Now it depends on which direction the gear turns when it close the tray. Seeing that it doesn close completely, the gear turns anti clockwise to close. Lift the gear in a up sliding position and turn it one teeth clockwise, press the gear back, fasten the screw and test. If it still needs more adjustment, repeat the process with another teeth clockwise. Note if it worsen that it doesn't close, then you need to reverse the process and move the gear anticlockwise, but make sure to mark the teeth that it was originally on when you opened it.
it seems that your cd rw burner has reached it's MTBF, or it might have even over lasted it, I myself experienced such problems and the only way to solve it is to replace its read write assembly as a package, it is available at all LG computer peripherials store.
