Hi, KP-51HW40 shuts off due to incorrect white balance and blue arch lines is an evidence of that incorrect white balance. I hope tv standby red light would flashing 5 times then 3 seconds pause and again 5 times when tv shuts down. This is rear projection tv that has three picture tubes (red-green-blue) inside to generate picture that projected at front screen. These three picture tubes must be drive with correct drive voltage to produce good picture of each color. Solution for your tv problem is Screen Voltage adjustment that can be done easily if you are handy with electronics stuff repair. Let me know your expertise level to guide you more and if you feel unconformable by tv repair then local tv repairman will help you to adjust white balance in tv. Hope these info will help you. Let me know if you have additional questions. Thanks.
It is rear projection TV that use 3 picture tubes of red-green-blue to show color picture on tv front screen. Do you see standby red light blinking when TV shuts off after showing blue image for a while? If red standby light is blinking, please count it how many times it blinks, there would be 3 seconds pause between blinks so count pause to pause and post it here to find out possible solution. Thanks.
if you take the front cover off the tv, you will see 6 little nobe, the top 3 are focus, bottom 3 are brightness, should be RED-BLUE-GREEN in order from left to right, find the one that is blue, turn it down a quarter turn, should fix the problem
or a new lamp. you could first replace the lamp. the screen might work fine for a couple of seconds, but then it fades away or deteriorates. This means the lamp is going bad.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you have a shorted red picture tube.It is not at all uncommon on sony rear projection. The gun shorts and the set identifies the problem and goes into shutdown. Usually there are diagonal lines in the picture before it shuts down. this is an unfortunate problem because this set delivers a great picture. The dealer cost of the tube is around $200. When the repair is complete your're probably looking at $400-$600.
The only problem is that the green tube and the blue tube also have chance of having the same problem. It'a tough call . But from my experience , I have replaced the green tube and
had the blue tube goe within a year. Scrivitron
