My thread keeps falling off of the take off lever. I can re-thread the machine and it will sew fine for about 10 inches and then I hear a loud noise and the machine has dropped the thread from the take up lever. Do you think its my tension?
It's a problem with the thread take up lever, either put a small
piece of tape on the take up lever or take a pair of pliers and
carefully place a cloth over the take up lever and close the take up
lever a little but don't damage the take up lever

Sounds like you threaded it wrong and kept trying to sew, gently get all of your material out of the machine, DO NOT FORCE, GENTLY ROCK IT OUT OR YOU WILL WRECK THE MACHINE, also watch your dvd and learn about threading from your book. Always, hold your thread ends when you start to sew. If, you cannot find your manual go to www.singerco.com, I have sewn for 50+ years and found that the dvd was very helpful, each machine is different.

you might try taking a pair of pliers & gently closing the gap in the thread take up lever, I had the same problem in my mechanical sewing machine & that's what it took to fix it, the thread doesn't slip off any more when I'm sewing.

http://www.singerco.com/resources/threading.html, this will tell you how to thread. I am thinking that you do not have the cap that you put over the thread spool to stop it from falling off. Until you can get one, how about taking the top of an empty pill bottle and making a hole in the center and sliding it on the spool pin. Then call Singer at 1-800-4singer and order the real thing, you can also ask them questions on operating the machine. It looks like they do not have a manual for your model for free, it is $15.
