Change from XP back to Vista

My laptop was changed from its Vista format to XP without my permission and I want to get it back. I'm also getting a lot of popups from Microsoft claiming I'm operating under a fake copy of their system. I have a genuine copy but I'm getting nowhere with them. So, I think the only solution is to save all my files, or copy them to disks and do a factory reset. Will my computer allow this and be fully restored to its original state? Thank you.

You can definitely do that. Backup your files and then follow these steps:

1. Power on the computer.
2. Hold the <CTRL> key and press the F10 key until the Recovery Menu appears
3. Select 'Restore'
4. Select the setting to restore the system to the Factory Image
5. Walk through the remaining prompts to complete the restore.

SOURCE: How do you change the password on a Aspire 43`5

Ok.. Seems like its the HDD password set using the BIOS. You can remove this pasword by taking out the CMOS battery for about a minute. This would reset all of your BIOS settings to default there by clearing the password. For more information click here

If you created your system restore CDs when you purchased the system, insert your first CD into the CD drive and boot your computer. This will restore your computer to factory settings. ALL DATA WILL BE LOST.

Upgrading windows vista to windows xp in presario 115DX

You cannot 'upgrade' Windows Vista to Windows XP - that is technically a 'downgrade' and would need you to save all your user data on Vista then format you Windows drive then do a clean install of Windows XP.

If you try to install XP over the top of Vista you will have lots of problems because of the difference in architecture and boot manager changes.

The only alternative would be to set up a dual-boot installation where you install XP alongside Vista but would be best done on either a separate disk partition or on a second disk. Normally such a dual-boot configuration would start with having XP installed then adding Vista as the second operating system.

You must change the permissions for this drive.
Right click on the drive and select properties, then look at the security tab.
Use the edit button.
Then select your ID and check off all the boxes under permissions for users.

Help required installing OS (Changing OS ) myself on my HP dv9507

There are two procedures, [1]Reformat your hard disk and start a clean installation (this is the easiest thing to do, however not the most convinient) and [2] Using a genuine retail version [NOT a recovery disk] you could do some kind of downgrade [not as easy as it sounds]
I'll go back to solution number 1 (reformating the hard disk). Idearly, you'll want to back up your vista installation just in case things get messed up, then secondly you'll want to create a backup of all your files [dont worry about application data, you'll have to reinstall it all anyway]. After you're done, Insert your Windows XP disk, [it should ask you to press a key to boot from CD, if not you'll have to go into your BIOS and change the boot order], when you're into the setup, the guidelines are pretty simple, you'll have to run one of the formatting options in order to install XP [remember that formatting will erase everything from your hard disk, So I hope you did aBACK UP of all your DATA]...
As for procedure 2, Installing XP without reformating, well, let me know if you're up for the procedure and if you have an XP recovery disc

My computer will not download Macromedia Flash Player

This sounds to be either a permissions problem, or compatability issue with vista, or you may have some type of malware / trojan / virus on your computer blocking access to flash player updates / installs.

To make sure, it's not a vista related permissions / compatability issue, download flashplyer installer from here:
(links at end of post)

Right-click on it, and select " Run as administrator "
if install fails again, try to change compatability to windows XP sp2

If it still fails, update your virus protection software, or get one, and run a full scan, also look for Malwarebytes and Spybot Search & Destroy malware / spyware removal tools.
(links at end of post)

These softwares are FREE of charge, and i personally use them.

Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html
Malware Bytes - http://www.malwarebytes.org/

You wont need the Windows XP installation disk to upgrade to Vista. Let me know if you need any more assistance.
