My xerox PE16 mistakenly thinks there is no toner, even with a new toner cartridge. 1. How can I tell it that the sensor should be reset? AND/ OR 2. How can I print faxes from memory (they refuse to print when the sensor says toner empty). Thanks in advance

Most Xerox machine are under a supplies agreement and the machine recognizes that a non coded toner refill has been used. If I remember from previous questions here, it needs to be reset by Xerox.

Try cleaning the contacts and reseating the cartridge.

When the toner cartridge is near the end of its life span:

• White streaks and light printing occur.
• The Error LED blinks red.

If this happens, you can temporarily reestablish print quality by
redistributing the remaining toner in the cartridge. In some cases, white
streaks or light printing will still occur even after you have redistributed
the toner.

1. Open the front cover.

2.Pull the toner cartridge out.


Caution
• Avoid reaching too far into the printer. The fuser area may be
hot.
• To prevent damage to the toner cartridge, do not expose it to
light for more than a few minutes. Cover it with a piece of
paper, if necessary.
• Do not touch the green surface underside of the toner
cartridge. Use the handle on the cartridge to avoid touching
this area.

3. Thoroughly shake the cartridge 5 or 6 times to distribute the toner
evenly inside the cartridge.

Caution
• If toner gets on your clothing, wipe it off with a dry cloth and
wash clothing in cold water. Hot water sets toner into fabric.

4. Hold the toner cartridge by the handle and slowly insert the
cartridge into the opening in the printer.

Tabs on the sides of the cartridge and corresponding grooves
within the printer will guide the cartridge into the correct position
until it locks into place completely.

5. Close the front cover. Make sure that the cover is securely closed.

The toner sensor where the cartridge is loaded is fouled or you refilled this cartridge and the printer does not reconise the toner inside and thinks its empty ether or sensor or refilled cartridge the printer thiks there is no toner.

1. Did you refill the toner?
2. Brand new cartridge > take it back to the retailer if that does not work the printer will need repair.

your printer maybe can't recognise print cartridge, for sure use old one to check this. if i'm right - replace toner cartridge!

i'm going to try to explain this in english even tought is not my native language, i had the same problem with my xerox 4150, when i bought a new cartridge it worked perfectly but at some point it stoped working, and it says in the screen something like "remove toner cartridge and reinstall", the problem was that the chip (is like a sticker under the toner) was in bad position from factory, a men who worked in xerox told me that there was a lot of toner cartridge that came with this problem, and this chip is ultrasonic or something like that because it never make contact with the printer circuit, so the fact is that you only have to remove and re-paste the chip in the correct position, but you have to do it several times until it works, that's how i repaired it...

What has most likely happened is the fuse either fell out of the new cartridge or is not making good contact. Look on the top of the cartridge, there is a sliver and glass fuse that is supposed to be on the cartridge to reset the toner counter.
Be sure that fuse is there. If it isn't the cartridge will not reset.
If thats the case you can replace the fuse with a good one or contact whoever you purchased the cartridge form for a replacement.
