Lanier 5627 ADF not working. Does not recognize paper

The ADF stopped working. When you open the top, you normally get a series of beeps - that no longer happens. When you insert paper into the ADF, you normally get a beep, that no longer happens. When you try to copy with the ADF it copies from the Scanner glass even though there is no paper on the scanner glass. What could be wrong?

SOURCE: copier stopped working - has ADF jam message

As mentioned in the other thread concerning this problem, the board seems not the problem.
I had the same problem and found out, that the cable connecting ADF and "main machine" was the problem. In this cable are 10 wires, one of them - in my case the violet one - was broken.
I used a new wire and soldered it in between, now it works fine.
I think - as this very short cable is only plugged on both sides (ADF side under the cover) - you should check this first. Spare - part should be much cheaper.

An other soultion can be, that the sensor - hook slid out of his mount.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: ADF not working

Open the document feeder and look for an obstruction.

Clean the roller and pad with isopropyl alcohol.

Also look for a switch actuator trapped down or knocked off.

SOURCE: I can not copy from

Is your system on? If it is on, then you press copy, it scans it and a window showing your scanned document is displayed. Then from here (the system) you can print it. Try it and tell me what happens.

Panasonic DP 2500 photocopy machine from you a few months ago. I cleared a few paper jams and have not had a problem until now. The message on the machine says to ?close the ADF cover?. I do not know what...

the top cover that opens to the left normally has a small piece of plastic that slots into a sensor toward the back of the adf. this small piece has broken off so the machine thinks the adf is open. an engineer would need to replace the door for you.

HP Officejet Pro LP 7880 feeder does not work, how to fix it?

Step one: Check the paper in the ADF The condition of the paper or the amount of paper loaded in the ADF might prevent the ADF from picking it up and feeding it through the product.
  1. Make sure that no more than 50 sheets of paper are in the ADF input tray.
  2. Make sure the original is not photo paper or carbon paper. These types of originals must be loaded on the scanner glass.
  3. Make sure the original document that is loaded in the ADF meets the following criteria:
    • Free from curls, folds, creases, and tears
    • Does not have staples or clips attached
Step two: Make sure the ADF pick assembly is in good working condition
  1. Remove the document feeder and open the ADF cover.
  2. While lifting the blue-green lever, carefully rotate the pick assembly toward the open ADF cover until it stops.
  3. Examine the pick assembly.
    • Make sure the bottom roller is held firmly in place by the two-catch, which is located to the left and the right of the roller.
    • Make sure the stack stopper, which is located between the top and bottom rollers, fits within the double slots just above the bottom roller. The stack stopper should move freely within the double slots to flow up and down when the whole pick assembly is lifted and lowered into position.
  4. Return the pick assembly to its original position.
  5. When the product is turned on, the top roller will reset to its original position above the separator pad. There will be a gap between the separator pad and the top roller.
  6. If there is no gap between the ADF top roller and the separator pad, press the Power button to turn off the product.
  7. Wait three to five seconds and then press the Power button to turn the product on. The ADF rollers should reset to the correct positions.
  8. Close the ADF cover and replace the document feeder.
Step three: Clean the rollers and separator pad
  1. Remove the document feeder and open the ADF cover.
  2. While lifting the blue-green lever, carefully rotate the pick assembly toward the open ADF cover until it stops.
  3. Lightly dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with distilled water, and then squeeze any excess liquid from it.
  4. Use the damp cloth to wipe any residue off the rollers and the separator pad. If the residue does not come off using distilled water, use isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol on the cloth instead.
  5. Return the pick assembly to its original position.
  6. Close the ADF cover and replace the document feeder.
Step four: Detaching and re-attaching the ADF pick roller assembly If the ADF pick assembly is detached or not connected properly, follow the steps below to resolve the issue. If the ADF pick assembly works well, do not perform these steps.
  1. Press the Power button to turn off the All-in-One.
  2. Remove the document feeder and open the ADF cover.
  3. Press the blue-green ADF-release button to release the ADF rollers from the pick assembly as shown in the figure below (the red arrow is pointing to the ADF release button).
  4. Re-attach the ADF pick rollers by placing the rollers into the roller slot of the ADF pick assembly as shown in the figure below. The red arrows show the gears on the ADF pick assembly aligned on one side. The yellow arrows point to the two-catch notch.
  5. Once the rollers are placed on the two-catch notch, push them in, so that the two-catch clicks into place. The photo below shows a correctly installed ADF pick assembly.
  6. Close the ADF assembly and cover.
  7. Turn the product on and make a copy with the ADF to check that the pick assembly works.

It stopped faxing through the feeder and said feeder errror. its a HP j4680 all in one office jet

Hello, Brittany.

Give this a try (from HP Support):

Complete the following steps to check the condition of the paper, reload the original, and then open and close the Automatic Document Feeder cover.

The main reason for this issue is that the ADF rollers that pick up the papers might not grip the paper because dirt sticks to the rollers.

Step One: Check the paper and reload the original
The condition of the paper, or the amount of paper, might prevent the ADF from picking it up and feeding it through the product.

1. Make sure that the ADF tray contains fewer than 25 sheets of paper.
2. Make sure that the ADF tray contains no photo paper or carbon paper.
3. Make sure the paper in the ADF tray meets the following criteria:
* No curls, folds, creases, or tears
* No staples or clips attached
NOTE: Folded paper, torn paper, or paper with rough edges might not feed correctly. If your original is folded or damaged, either reprint the original or try to smooth out the damaged portions.
4. Reload your original, with the print side up, into the ADF tray. Place the pages so that the top edge of the document goes in first. Slide the paper into the ADF tray until you hear a beep or see a message on the display indicating that the loaded pages are detected.

* If still a problem, go to the next step.

Step Two: Open and close the ADF cover
NOTE: Remove all originals from the ADF tray before you open the ADF cover.

1. Open the ADF cover, and then close it again.
2. Press the OK button.

* If still a problem, go to the next step.

Follow these steps to turn the product off and then on again.

1. Press the Power button to turn off the product.
2. Wait 15 seconds.
3. Press the Power button to turn on the product.

Hope this helps.

Top ADF will not recognize paper in the feed tray.

Try to replace the 'paper is present' sensor with the 'cover open' one to see if now it is detecting the paper. Also, check the actuator that enter in that sensor.
