SOURCE: leviton slide dimmer switch w/locator light light comes on but doesnt dim

What sort of light is it , dimmer switches normally only work on Incandescent type lights not flourescent type.

Otherwise it sounds as if the dimmer function is faulty.

SOURCE: Light dimmer issue

the light on the switch does not men it is wired correctly, it only means that you have supplied power at that point. Without knowing more its hard to say, but I'll assume this is a single switch operating a single unit. That being the case, and depending on your fixture, occassionally wires must be grouped together on the switch side. Also quite often these switches are simply defective, and must be returned. If you think you have it correct then its probably a bad switch.

SOURCE: touch dimmer malfunction

sounds like a loose connection to me, check to make sure all connections are tight. sometimes the bulbs themselves don't make a good connection in there socket.

u will have to take the switches out of the wall box and make sure the wires are tight, whether they are on screws or wires connected to wires. if it is wires to wires u may have to take that apart to make sure u don't have a bad connection there.

if it is none of that, then it is time to replace the switches

SOURCE: I just installed a Leviton

The Leviton IP106 Illumatech dimmer switch must be installed at the switch location where the hot feed exists. From your description your hot feed is at the regular 3-way switch location. Swap locations.

Leviton 6793 does not work on LED lamps?

Look at product number again to see if numbers posted are correct.
Also include what type of device this is: rotary dimmer? slide dimmer? touch dimmer? Switch? single-pole application or 3-way? And include what you are replacing.

I am replacing a Lightolier 3-way Dimmer switch with a Leviton IPI06-1LX Dimmer switch. When I install the dimmer switch it works fine. But the on/off regular wall switch won't turn the light on or...

It depends. Some dimmers are considered "smart dimmers," where the control on the other end of the 3-way has to be intelligent enough to send a signal back to the dimmer. If the Lightolier dimmer was a smart dimmer, then chances are that the 3-way control was designed to talk only to that specific dimmer. The Leviton product you replaced it with is a simple, basic dimmer - it should work in conjunction with a simple, basic 3-way switch.

If the 3-way control already IS a simple, basic 3-way switch - then I would simply re-check the wiring of the dimmer you replaced.

I AM REPLACING A 3 WAY WITH A LEVITON TRUE TOUCH 3WAY DIMMER. IT APPEARS AS THOUGH THE OTHER 3WAY IS ACTING AS A SWITCH FOR THE DIMMER. IF THE OTHER SWITH IS "ON" THEN THE DIMMER WORKES FINE...

The other switch should only be changing from one wire being hot when it is in the up position to a second wire being hot when it is in the down position. Then the new dimmer should be hot on one terminal when the other switch is up and on a different terminal when it is down.
I'm not sure how the Leviton dimmer works, though.

My rotary dimmer doesn't switch 3-ways. I have to push the dimmer button to "on", then I can use the other switch to turn on/off.

You posted under Leviton rotary dimmer.
Lutron and Leviton have many 3-way dimmer styles, and both make 3-way rotary dimmers.

I remember years ago replacing 3-way switches with dimmers and having same experience as you. One dimmer has to be ON for the other dimmer to dim.

Later I learned when you replace both 3-way switches with dimmers, you buy a control-and-companion dimmer set. One dimmer is main, and it lets you dim from both locations. The two dimmers communicate with each other electronically. Buy these dimmers at lighting store that specializes in fixtures and dimmers. Ask for most experienced salesperson.

I checked to see if rotary dimmers are made in the companion set. And neither Leviton or Lutron show 3-way companion set rotary dimmers.

1) Leviton spec sheet on rotary 3-way dimmers does not show companion dimmer. This indicates that Leviton rotary dimmers don't have capability of communicating with each other.

2) Lutron has image of 3-way rotary dimmers.
Image shows single rotary dimmer in 3-way & 4-way circuit.
This tells me that Lutron does not have companion dimmer for 3-way rotary dimmer.
