Visit the site named 'Electro-help' for more details. Click this link. View it in Timeslide or Flipcard option, which can be selected from the drop down box menu by the Sidebar tag, at the top left corner of the display window. You can also click the Home tab to see the latest updates. It will make search easier. There are more than 1450 posts to different brand TVs till now. Setup proceedings and code list to different brand remote controls also included. Pull up older posts or do a search by type in the Brand Name of your device in the Search Box, at the top right of the display window. Check this link too.
Just a guess here : They want to sell the remote and KNOW most universals will either not program for this set or if do will be missing key and needed features only the correct remote will have.

If you can program a Comcast remote or another universal remote that has an info key, you can get rid of it. I just succeeded in programming my comcast remote thanks to Dave Taylor:

Once the remote is programmed, hit the "info" button and watch your frustration disappear!

Using the tv remote (or selecting TV button on cable universal remote) hit the INFO button. It remove the channel # for me. I might have a different model.
