TFT-5600 RKM Trackball not fully functional

The trackball is limited to movement on the left side of the screen along the y-axis (up and down). There is no movement along the x-axis (left and right). As this product is no longer produced, the HP site didn't offer any support. Anyone have any suggestions or know of a fix.

Trackball? Think on these computers that there should be a small ring around the outside of the trackball. This ring turns? quarter or half turn then you can remove it and gain access to the inside rollers where the ball sits. Clean the rollers out and then put it back together and ytou should be good for a few more months. then just repeat when the problem gets to bad. Remember this is all "I THINK" Hard to remember back that far.

The roller ball on my blackberry curve sticks. Any suggestions?

Most trackball movement problems can be rectified by cleaning the trackball. Try the following steps to see if it helps tp resolve the issue you are having;

1) Turn the unit off, open the back cover and pull the battery out,
2) Take a paper towel, dampen it with water...nothing else, making sure that the towel is only damp and not soaking wet,
3) Rub the damp paper towel on the trackball, over and over, making sure to rub up, down, side-to-side and every which way. This should clean the trackball and remove whatever is causing it to not move smoothly.
4) Wait a minute or two and replace the battery and cover. Once the unit has rebooted, try moving the trackball again. It should be better.

Cheers!

The roller ball doesnt work

The trackball doesn't work at all? Did it suddenly stop working or has it gone from good to bad over time? Going from working well to not going up or down or back and forth to not working at all could be fixed by following the instructions below. Ceasing to work suddenly could mean a defective device. You'll want to call your system provider for assistance. Hopefully the unit is still under warranty.

I want to disable the trackball (red button in centre of keyboard) on my new Lenovo X301 as I keep bumping it which then moves the cursor elsewhere in the document which is very frustrating when entering...

You need to look for the key along the top edge of the keyboard (function keys) that has small blue images of the touchpad and trackpoint. On my T400s, it is F8.

If you hold down your function (FN) key down on the lower left of the keyboard and press the ultranav (F8?) key, you should see your UltraNav device settings popup come on screen and let you select either the trackpoint by itself, the touchpad by itself, or both.

Tracking ball is limited in movement. I can scroll across, but not down.

Cause:
The sensitivity of the trackball/trackwheel might be less
Faulty Hardware

Resolution:
Increase the sensitivity by following procedure
Option -> Screen and Keyboard -> Horizontal Sensitivity and Vertical Sensitivity to 100

My trackball on bb 9000 won't move down

good luck.
if you can get the part -- its a trackball assembly btw not just the ball itself
you press down on the silver ring around the ball and turn, the cover will fall out. use a small probe and lift the assembly out.
many times there's fuzz in there -- check it out before you buy a new assembly

The tracking ball rotates but it does not move over the icons on the left side. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Depending on how comfortable you are with removing the trackball it's not hard to fix... you may have some dirt or grit interfering with the trackball and/or sensors. Take a small screwdriver or blade and gently pop the silver ring around the trackball off. This will free the actual trackball housing. Use an old toothbrush to clean everything. I also soaked the trackball in a little rubbing alcohol. Just make sure it is completely dry before reassembling. If that doesn't work you can purchase replacement trackballs from places like crackberry.com.
