Check to make sure your thermostat is set at a temperature that will turn the fireplace "on".
Double-check what your "swing" temp settings are set at, as this may effect how quickly the unit shuts off because it thinks it's too close to the target temperature.

If needed:Skytech's Tech Support number is 1-888-672-8929They are available Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm EST.

If your remote needs to be replaced, the 3301 is available here:

If you are looking to replace it, I would also highly recommend looking at Skytech's new 3301P2 remote. It adds a programmable thermostat, and a much nicer back-lit LCD screen. This unit is available here:

SOURCE: Skytech 5301 won't go to

Hi, well usually when something like this occurs, it is usually to do with either the Thermostat or the thermistor, sensor.

To rule out any problem with the/a remote, unlikely, check/use the functions on the unit itself... If it still is the same then you should try to troubleshoot the Thermostat & sensor to start with.

Try a reset. disconnect from the mains for a few mins and reconnect, this should clear any bad data that may have been stopping things, again however if still no go, then back to the thermostat and sensor again.

You have to get the remote and transceiver to talk to each other. Remove all the batteries and wait a couple of minutes
before replaceing them. Place the transceiver in the REMOTE
position, press and hold down the LEARN button, and then
press the MODE button on the remote control. A change in the
beep tone will be heard and you have MARRIED the two devices. Should solve the problem.

SOURCE: I have a Skytech 1001

Rhonda, if you have the On/Off/Flame Height Remote Control ... from what you have described (it's working in reverse) someone has wired it backwards to the control valve. With this particular remote, there is a positive and a negative. Reverse the wires that are connected to the gas control valve (at the control valve. Not on the Black Remote Box) and everything should be fine. If you need more help contact Skytech Technical Service @ 888-672-8929 Monday - Friday. They are great people to work with.

I have a Skytech 3301 for a propane stove with some thermostat problems.

Great question! It sounds to me like the Skytech's swing temp setting may be out of whack.
Here is a quick link to the product page with a link to the owner's manual at the bottom if you need: Skytech 3301 Fireplace Remote.
Below is an excerpt on how to check and modify the swing temp settings for the Skytech 3301. (I apologize if the copy/paste formats poorly).
The Thermo Mode on the transmitter operates the appliance whenever the ROOM TEMPERATURE varies a
certain number of degrees from the SET TEMPERATURE. This variation is called the "SWING" or
TEMPERATURE DIFFERENTIAL. The normal operating cycle of an appliance may be 2-4 times per hour depending on how well the room or
home is insulated from the cold or drafts. A smaller "swing number" increases the number of cycles so the room temperature is more
constant. A larger "swing number" decreases the number of cycles, which saves energy, in most cases. The factory setting for the "swing
number" is 2. This represents a temperature variation of +/- 2
0
F (1
0
C) between SET temperature and ROOM temperature, which determines
when the fireplace will be activated. The "SWING" number values are:
1=+ 1
0
F (.5
0
C), 2= + 2
0
F (1
0
C) and 3 = + 3
0
F (1.6
0
C).
SETTING THE TEMPERATURE SWING (TEMPERATURE DIFFERENTIAL)
1. To change the temperature "SWING" setting (1-3), press the TIMER/TIME and DOWN buttons
simultaneously to display the current "SWING" setting in the SET TEMP frame. The letter "S" will
display in the ROOM TEMP frame on the LCD screen.
2. Press the UP or DOWN button to change the temperature differential or "SWING" (1-3). See above
for 1-3 "SWING" temperature valves.
3. To store the "swing number press the SET button or allow 15 seconds to lapse, and the new "swing
number' will be automatically programmed.

MANUAL CHECK OF " SWING" OR TEMPERATURE DIFFERENTIAL
The operation of the factory set "THERMO SWING" can be checked by adjusting the SET TEMP 2
0
F above or below the room temperature.
This will cause the system to turn ON or OFF. Normally the system will only respond to temperature changes every two minutes. Manually
changing the SET temperature will activate the system in less than 10 seconds. IF the "SWING" is changed, then a new room temperature
differential will respond. Factory setting of "SWING" temperature is 2
0
F.

Remote won't work unless next to fireplace.

There are some adjustments that can be made to improve the reception of the Skytech 3301 Fireplace Remote.
Sometimes the RF reception can be diminished if the receiver is in an enclosed metal surround such as a heat shield.
The link above will bring you to the product page where you can scroll down and download the full owner's manual. An excerpt from the manual in regards to adjusting the reception is below:

"RECEIVER ADJUSTMENT - RECOMMENDED ADJUSTMENT
NOTE: The slide button, Gray or Black, covers the ADJ access hole when installed.
A. To adjust at the receiver, use a small slotted screwdriver. Turn the adjustment screw counter-clockwise
about 5 degrees or a maximum of 1/8 turn. This should correct the distance problem.
B. If that does not correct the problem, return adjustment screw to original position and then turn adjustment
screw clockwise.
This adjustment is like tuning your radio. If you keep turning the adjustment screw, in either direction, you will go past the proper setting (tuning)."

Skytech receiver batteries keep going dead

Joe,

The heat from the fireplace can have an adverse effect on the life of the batteries. Sometimes simply re-positioning the receiver to a cooler location under the firebox and/or adding a heat-shield can improve battery performance with the Skytech remote receivers.
As a test, you could even place the receiver outside the fireplace for a period of time to gauge the effect of heat on the unit.

According to the owner's manual for the Skytech 3301 Thermostat Remote:

"For REMOTE RECEIVERS that operate on BATTERY POWER, these heat conditions can cause batteries to discharge when temperatures exceed 115 degrees F. Studies show that alkaline batteries, when exposed to a constant temperature of 120 degrees F, can lose up to 50% of their operating power. When the battery cools down, it will partially recharge itself, but constant heating and cooling will reduce the battery's normal life expectancy."

Hope this helps!

There's no quick answer to your problem, as it may be your gas fireplace that's causing the problem. If you still have your Owners Installation Manual look at page # 7 (Trouble Shooting), this should help you solve your problem. If you don't have your Owners Manual, you can download it online from SkyTech's website. If all else fails contact SkyTech's Technical Service Dept @ 888-672-8929
