I just received my new train set from Amazon.com today. I set the train up, connected the power, and slowly moved the throttle switch forward. The locomotive lights up, and I can hear that it's getting power, but the locomotive does not move. I read the manual. Is there a safety lock on the locomotive I am not aware of for shipping purposes? Or maybe the locomotive wheels are locked up. I noticed it is a very detailed locomotive with small delicate parts, and I was very careful when handling it. Please help me save Christmas for the kids!
Try cleaning the track AND wheels with an INK ERASER. Put the engine on the track and help it along. It could just be tight from sitting in the box. I live about 8 miles from the Strasburg railroad and have 2 relatives working there. We have ALL experienced the same thing on4 different sets. It isn't just the Strasburg sets that do this, it's most of the new toys. Your Strasburg cars might not connect to other train sets. Their car couplings are different, just like on their real trains.

Hope you got the set working. If not, look underneath the locomotive near the rear (under the "cabin"). There are two switches, one on either side. One says "Smoke", the other says "Reverse". If the "Reverse" switch was set to "Off" when the locomotive was in Neutral, it will stay in neutral even when the power is cycled or the "Direction" button is pressed on the power supply. Even in Neutral, all the lights will work and I believe the smoke element will heat up but won't puff. Whatever setting the "Reverse" switch is on, try changing it to se if that works. Hope this helps...

I am slightly unclear of which Train model you are driving with the Train Engineer.
The instructions to resynchronise the transmitter and the receiver are contained here. You can resync and try again.
Otherwise please provide a bit more detail of the systems you are running.
SOURCE: My granddaughter has about a dozen Brio
Alas, the traction drive on these Brio locomotives seems to have a pretty short life. According to a Brio rep, the only hope is to indeed give it a good firm solid whack down onto a hard surface (table or floor) in an attempt to get the internal pressure gears to settle down and get more traction. There's a 50/50 chance it might work. There is no other solution. Attempting to open it up will create a mess because it's almost impossible to get all the tiny loaded springs back into place. At least the lights and sounds still work, and it can be easily pushed around the track--it just will no longer do so itself...

I would like to Thank everyone for tying to help me with my new train. I am kind of embarrassed to admit this, but there are two switches under the locomotive which were not mentioned in the instruction manual. Joe, a train enthusiast from strausburg suggested I switch the reverse switch to the on position, and the train will switch through three modes. Forward, neutral, and reverse, and TaDa! Problem solved. I wish to thank you all for coming to my aid and trying to solve my problem, I really appreciate it. May you all have a Merry Christmas, and a happy holiday!
Thank ahoy,
Jim
