How do I take the door apart so I may tighten or re insert the screw holding the handle on? the bottom screw came out and there are no screws to take the door apart....does it snap apart?
All my micros had the screw go through the handle into the micro...no need to take door apart, just screw it back in. Why would you need to take the door apart?

most door handles have a screw in it from behind, or inside the door. so must disassemble the door to replace. check price before taking apart. sometimes very expensive plastic or not available.
Loose bottom hinge - slide the microwave to the edge of the counter, and look at the bottom hinge - you may have to remove something to see clearly. Its likely you are missing a screw or the screws have worked themselves loose.
There is typically a plastic insert on the perimeter of the inside of the door that hides the screw heads. The screws may be TORX or TORX security (with the pin in the center).
You will need to access the door handle mounting screws located behind the inner door panel in order to tighten the door handle. This can be easily be accomplished by using a small screwdriver or putty knife and carefully insert along the seam of the inner panel and pry the plastic up. Work your way slowly around the perimiter of the glass to pop the panel loose. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that shields you from harmful microwaves.
With the inner panel removed, the door handle screws are visibile and can easily be accessed with a screwdriver. When finished with your repairs, re-insert the inner door panel, gradually working your way around the perimeter of the door glass to ensure it snaps back into place and seats properly.
This repair can be done with the door in place, or you can remove it for easier access. If you decide the remove the door, open it all the way and lift straight up at the hinges. The door will lift off of the hinge pins. On some microwaves, you may have to remove the upper grill cover over the door (if equipped) to accommodate door removal. Place on a hard flat surface with some towels under it for padding. This protects the door facing from scatches.
NOTE: Some doors have a hinge pin that needs to be removed, or screws holding the door in place at the hinge.
You can view an exploded view diagram of your microwave door at pcappliancerepair.com for reference. Just type in your model number and locate the parts listing for the door. If you have any questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
There is a pin holding the door on upper right hand corner of the door. Holding the door in the open position, lift up on the door a little and remove the pin. The door will come off. There are two screws on the edges of the door on the end where the handle is located. Remove the screws. Now, Take a slim screw driver, and carefully pry between the inside door panel and the ourside door panel starting at the end where the door handle is. Lift the inside of the door out. The opposite end of the inside door panel will come out last. Believe me, this works. Getting it back together is a little bit different, but it snaps back together without using tools. Just put the inside of the door back by laying it down with the handle side down after you have replaced the handle of course. Now, pushing in on the inside of the door panel starting on the handle side, start with lining up the panel and push gently. It will go back into place much much easier than it comes out.
The handle can only be changed by separating the outer and inner shells of the door. You can pull the outer shell off the inner shell by removing the three screws at the end of the door and then using firm force to pull the shells apart. It helps to gently pry along the bottom, top and inside (nearest the hinges) with a thin flathead screwdriver or other very thin metal object. You don't have to get it all the way loose; just a little is fine. You can then use the two clasps on the back of the door (that hold it shut when it's closed) to pull with. I found that inserting a slim screwdriver into the lower clasp and using that as a handle (not a lever!) gives you a better grip. Hold the outer shell of the door with your left hand while pulling the inner shell in the opposite direction. Be carefull not to twist or bend the clasps; they are plastic and will break. The shells will pull apart and then you can access the screws that hold the handle. Change the handle then press the door shells back together. Make sure they are snug all around. Replace the three end screws and you're done.
DON'T remove the cover yourself unless you fully undertand the SAFETY issues involved in working inside a microwave oven. A microwave oven is possibly THE MOST DANGEROUS common consumer product to service.
Usually with these doors, the latching parts tend to loosen up at times, thus requiring some re-adjustment and tightening. Sometimes they get a bit warn and require to be replaced.
The handle by itself about $40, apparently GE doesn't know how to
make a door handle that will hold up for more than a year or so. I just bought a new door off of eBay for $20 + $20 shipping ... a deal compared to the $135 + tax and shipping that most of the web sites want!
All you need is a phillips screwdriver and a 5/16" socket. To get to 3 screws that anchor the TOP hinge, simply remove the vent grill (open the door and remove the 2 white screws that hold it in
place). To get to the 2 screws that anchor the BOTTOM hinge, simply
remove the 6 screws that hold the grey bottom pan of the microwave in place. The pan will swivel down, remaining attached in the back panel.
Once you've removed the 5 hinge screws, the door should pull pretty
much straight out.
Reverse the procedure with the new door, which should come with hinges attached.
Could be that the place the spring sits in is a little broken, so theres no stop for the spring. open it up and see if there's anything you can do with it, try some epoxy putty maybe.
Good luck
Door handle is loose and can't get to the screws
