Hi tham01,

First off, if the server has raid already setup, you will need to go into lsi logic to format the drives so you can install XP. Once the drives have been initiated from the server bios, just place XP in the CDROM, and shouldn't have a problem loading on the 2600 POWEREDGE SERVER. If your trying to install it with the Dell quick install disk, you can't!!! Install it on it's own without the Dell Disk.

Good Luck!

Mark

My dell poweredge 2600 wont load up

  1. Can you access the Bios configuration on boot by pressing F2? Check the setting
  2. By load up do you mean your server software does not boot? use F10 on post from the utility partition main menu under Run System Utilities.
  3. Is the server working with RAID? Press CTRL + R and check the RAID
I am not going to say check all the cables because I am sure you will have already?!?

I'm trying to start Microsoft Windows Server2003 from USB Hard Drive on Dell PowerEdge 2600 Server.

Dell provides lifetime tech support for all PE servers. Call them at 800-945-3355 and give them the service tag or express service code from the server. If it can be done, they will tell you how.
Good luck!

Hello I have a Problem for Dell PowerEdge 400sc and cant get windows xp installed, I am able to reformat the HD but cant get xp to load and at one point during the installation it says it cant install...

try another windows xp disk or burn another copy of the disk you have. it's also possible that there's a problem with the optical drive that you're using.

XP cannot find disk

If you are installing this on a PowerEdge 2600, you will have difficulty installing XP, as this is a server and drivers will be scarce, not the least of which will be the RAID controller (PERC 4/Di). If you had it, you would need to load the driver at the F6 prompt just after booting to the Windows disk.

Reinstall

As long as you have proof of purchase/paperwork......

Call Dell Customer Service.
Or E-mail them.....all info can be found on:
Dell.com!

You may be able to Download them....

Also Check your Poweredge Manuals......
Sometimes Dell is famous for having Everything backed up on a protected partition on the Hard Drive.......So a simple keyboard command (it might be "Ctrl+F11", not sure) at the bios boot screen can sometimes load the computer Back to it's original status.......

Also There's a better way if you don't mind ignoring all the CRAPPY software that comes preloaded with your operating system.......

Or, EVEN BETTER IDEA..........

Buy a New Copy of WINDOWS (I recommend XP PRO! since Windows 7 won't be released til around September this year......then upgrade to that.......SKIP VISTA......7 is way better, I would know!)

When You boot from the Disc, (True Windows XP OS Disk) you can delete ALL THE PARTITIONS and install a FRESH NEW WINDOWS INSTALLATION..........that's the best solution, in my opinion.........but call dell.......do both of these things!

I want to format scsi drives and configure raid0

You can either do this in the BIOS or (easier) just run a Linux installer (such as Ubuntu) and it will offer to do it for you when it sees Windows-formatted partitions.
