No sound

1st thing to try is a different XLR microphone cable. Sounds too simple, but sometimes it's the cable. If the mic has ever been dropped/damaged, OR has seen alot of saliva/spit from singing into it...it's possible the diaphragm has crapped out. At which point, get a new mic, because the SM-48 is not an expensive mic to replace with same.

Looked on 5 sites- inconclusive answers- sm 58 mic three posts on voice coil/ diaphragm, three wires leading to it. low imp use- connect which colors to which terminals? james

Try this.... Search google for: shure sm58 wiring diagram
In one of the results you will find diagram and colors in the upper left corner pix. If yours doesn't have those colors, congratulations, you have one of the counterfeit Shure mics that are being sold.

Neumann TLM mic is inoperative when connected to PA with same cable that worked with Shure SM 58 mic

The Shure SM58 is a dynamic microphone instead of the electret one Neumann TLM 103. This means that Shure does not need a phantom power supply voltage, instead of Neumann TLM 103; this one needs 48Volts. Here are the specifications for each one of the microphones: Shure SM 58 - Neumann TLM 103. In case you use a pre-amplifier or an audio console try to locate a switch marked as "Phantom Power" and turn it on. Typically there is no problem supplying a phantom power at the SM58. In case you have no phantom power switch available, either post back the mixer brand / model to check it for you, or post me a question to suggest you one. Details about the usage and the mixer you are already using will help me to clarify the total audio situation.

In case of a problem or clarification or further details needed, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.

I bought a samson se50 headset microphone to go with my GTD Audio wireless system. It has the correct adapter plug to plug in to the transmitter. The plug is a mini XLR plug. The microphone does not...

You need power from the transmitter to power this mic. See your mics specs to determine if it needs "Phantom Power"
Perhaps the transmitter doesn't supply power. Condenser mics may not work. Stay with the dynamic type. IMHO

Shure 58 when plug it has no sound

First i would check the cable. If cable seems good I would buy some contact cleaner and try cleaning the xlr pins on the bottom of the mic. Last i would take the set screw out of the side of the mic and carefully remove the xlr assembly. There are 2 wires connected to that and not a whole lot of slack so be careful. Basically make sure they are still soldered on.

Hi i need to know the color code to assemble a new 3 prong stereo 1/4 inch jack for a shure sm 58 microphone. i need to know the order and color to reassemble the mic cable to a new 1/4 inch guitar type...

Unfortunately, different cables use different colors of wires. Thus, you'll have to see what colors are connect to both ends of the cables. Here is the wiring:

XLR -> 1/4 inch
Pin 1 -> Sleeve
Pin 2 -> Tip
Pin 3 -> Sleeve

Shure beta 58

Benimur, you are correct, except that the Beta 58 is a condenser mic that required phantom power. In that case all 3 lines are used. Included below are the connections.

Vt 2008 mic

The V-Tech mic is actually a clone of the Shure SM-58. There's some discussion about how it is actually made (since V-Tech has no information on their website about their microphone line), but it looks to be made out of aluminum, vs. Shure's Zinc alloy. I believe it will sound the same, it just won't be as rugged as the SM-58.

(I know people who have used an old SM-58 as a hammer to pound stakes for their remote tent into the ground - and it still functioned afterward).
