Why is my hp pavilion a1220n product number ED904AA-ABA?

I had installed two 1 GB memory sticks in my tower along with the installed 512 MB memory sticks. When I try to turn on the tower, the front panel light won't light up. In the back of my tower, a green light flashes slow in the back part. Do that mean that I need to replace the power supply?

Try removing the 512 MB memory to see if it does work with the 1GB stick only.

It's not the power supply that does have a problem. It has something with your memory stick.

SOURCE: HP Desktop Pent 4 randomly shuts down and restarts on its own

Hello,

That is a power failure, please try change the power supply..or test the voltage in the wall outlet if it rate 220 volts if not then power supply is the main causes. Sometimes the software's got conflict due to virus infections.

try to scan your computer with a potent antivirus maybe it help.

SOURCE: Just bought 2 1GB PNY dual Chanel memory modules

HP Support > Pavilion a1600n desktop computer > Motherboard Specifications,

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00757531&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3245022

Scroll down the page to the illustration, and photo of the Pavilion a1600n motherboard.

On the motherboard illustration where it states DDR2 XMM1 (64 bit ,240-pin module), and DDR2 XMM2 (64 bit ,240-pin module), is where the two 1GB ram memory modules go.

On the motherboard photo, it is the two Blue in color ram memory slots.

The 512MB ram memory modules go into the Black ram memory slots.
[DDR2 XMM3, and DDR2 XMM4]

The Blue ram memory slots are one Channel. (Channel 1)
The Black ram memory slots are the second Channel.
(Channel 2)

You want to keep LIKE ram memory modules in the same Channel.

If you are having problems with the PNY ram memory modules, tell me what the manufacturer code is on them.

(Or if you bought them off of a website, see if you can copy and paste the link in a Comment. Believe upper right of your page.
FixYa is constantly undergoing changes to improve the website, is why I indicate that)

You need low density, unbuffered ram memory, DDR2 Sdram ram memory.

[DDR2 at either 533MegaHertz, or you can also use DDR2 at 667MHz.
PC2-4200 and PC2-5300 respectively ]

Don't try out any high performance ram memory is my recommendation, because the Voltage required by the ram memory, may not meet the factory default voltages that are preset in your computer.

[Factory Voltage default setting for ram memory for your motherboard, is set at 1.8 Volts.
Some high performance DDR2 ram memory requires 2.0 Volts, 2.1 Volts, or even higher ]

Latest bios for HP Media Center PC?

sad how, how fixya AI guessing wrong??? pathetic, mess....
wow a very old media center, gen 2 of 14 or so.
HP does not support this quote
HP Media Center m1070n Desktop PC,its RETIRED now
https://support.hp.com/us-en/retired-products

The BIOS does not do that!
what HP, it has full name and model.
the MMC controls this, and is very strict. (mem-managment controller)
the memory you are buying is no good. for YOUR PC.
this is so very common
and worse every year,
ever heard of Crucial or Kingston memory
they can fit up memory for you, it very complex.
not just DMM1, 2,3, but speed, min.
density rules.
chip count rules
chip voltage, 1.3. 1.5 or both or?
Total memory max allowed and PER SOCKET !
and even number of chips per side of stick , rule.
that worst was intel i5 old processors.
those are facts, and only the exact motherboard you have a
and what processor is there, (and if mmc is external to processor that)
matter.
? this?
M1070n

finding data on such and old box.
is not easy but google can dig up bits.
why not ask Kingston? for help,.

key facts are, (besides old)
HP Media Center m1070n Desktop PC
Intel Pentium 4 520 / 2.8 GHz
Intel 915P Express (my guess, mmc is inside here)
oops

looks like 1GB max per slot , 1 to 4.
good luck finding SDRAM in 2017 that works.

why not find a newer box? (pc) say 2010 or newer.,
they will run better and can buy ram easy
vastly better.... even Goodwill has them for few bucks

I have the HP Pavilion a1330n computer, I just installed 4G of memory (4 X1G) to replace my previous 1G (2 X 512). The memory specs are correct but every morning the computer has a black screen and I have...

NO OS stated, Blues screens you mean the BSOD with the halt? statement on screen? i bet yes. (with words on blue screen)
words matter.....
Bought new memory or old?
no, (to supposed) yes, to , back to beginning done wrong or luck bad.
so put back the old RAM, does that work.?
or use just 1 stick of old ram. ? 1 by 1.
then repeat, new ram 1by1,
see? one stick is bad, if it all ran perfectly before you touched ram.
buying RAM for such and old PC is not easy.
step1:
first ASK HP, you asked now at yahoo, why here, and not HP>?
but HP long long ago retired the A series.
per HP pages. here
https://support.hp.com/us-en/retired-products
personally I do go the used PC store and buy $20 PC vastly newer.
sure would, but lets follow the rules for yours, step by step
step 2, (1 was hp , no support)
next is to lean what Memory was uses and what the processor spec is on the same,
the mobo is 2005 era. (as old as) 12 years ago...
its not Intel, its Athlon 64 (S) 3800+ 2.4 GHz
if it was intel , the intel chip drives the memory with its MMC
its not.
ASUS made this mobo by HP contract.A8AE-LE
hp name is: AmberineM-GL6E
max mem
4 GB* (4 x 1 GB) requires the replacement of the installed 512 MB DIMMs
PC-3200 MB/sec , speed ( not slower !) faster ok.
184 pin, DDR SDRAM
Dual-channel memory architecture
4 x 184-pin DDR DIMM sockets support unbuffered non-ECC 4 GB 400/300 MHZ DDR memory modules

page 7 is sparse in your manual.
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/721818/Asus-A8ae-Le.html?page=7#manual

the Athalon 64 has an ON DIE mmc, memory controller
this sets the base limits of all possible memory.
the memory speed is not by FSB, speeds
simpler terms, the memory is always running at a set fraction of the CPU speed
this chip has the advantage for running , cleaner DDR signals.
that other FSB designs.
what that means , to the user more memory choices.

I see this maker selling memory , a top maker,
http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP-Compaq/pavilion-a1330n-series

test the sticks all 1 by 1,,, one good way to test it is run fast games.

DDR stick density rules and numbers and types of memory pre stick and pre side can cause problems on old processors.
I could not find the Athalon 64 rules on this, AMD can tell you at there site but im too lazy to look it up..
best is to let Crucial or Kingston guy you , here. for SURE>

MEMORY UPGRADE

Sorry for the delay in my response.

Your computer will accept a maximum of 1 GB of memory. If both memory modules are the same brand and part number then it is possible that one of the sticks are bad.

Try each 512 MB memory stick in the first memory slot, without installing a second stick. This will troubleshoot to find out if one of the 512 memory sticks are bad. If both check out ok, then the problem is with the video adaptor.

Have you tried adjusting the refresh rate on the monitor as I described in my first response?

My final possible solution would be to upgrade the bios. Below is a link to the webpage for your computer system. You will find links for troubleshooting guides, driver and software downloads, product specifications, etc. If you click on driver downloads, then choose your operating system, you will be directed to a page that should provide the latest ROM (bios) update.
