Denon CD deck

I switch on the DCD-500AE and it says,'Reading', then 'no disc', which is how it should be. I put in a CD and it displays 'loading'. Then the total tracks are displayed. I press to play the first track, and number 1 is displayed. The moment the music starts, the display goes off but the music plays OK. I then press the second track and the display returns and shows Number 2 but once the music plays, this display (number 2) goes out again. It's the same when using the remote control. When I press any track, the whole display lights up and I can see where I am, but once the music plays, the screen goes blank again. Once the CD has finished and the last track played, the display returns and shows the last track number and the displays remains lit up. I've tried both bought CDs and self-created ones and all play successfully; albeit without a display screen.

This unit needs a service visit. It may be a common problem with that model but to me it sound like a power supply issue as when you play a disc more power is used to rotate motors and move the sled. This is indicating to you that it is in a weakened condition and will soon fail more significantly. The problem may be as little as a solder joint or a defective Filter capacitor which is common in some models of equipment.

Thank you ever so much for your reply. So far I had tried those CD/DVD cleaner discs but it didn't make any difference. The deck was bought on 25-10-2009 and it's a lovely machine. We would have taken it to our local store but they don't exist anymore. I've searched online and found A Denon dealer in York to ask if they know of a local dealer who could look at our CD deck.

Funny as it may seem repair shops are either closing or they charge a high amount of money to not effectively repair a unit- I hear this sometimes threre times a day from the customers who bring or ship units to me. There are two crooked shops in Chicago that do that. I primarily work on tape decks of the Teac/Tascam brand as well as other equipment. I have very few machines I can not repair as I have been doing this for over 40 years. The way the manufacture wants you to fix the unit is to buy a new one. Some people do not like to do that and they have it sent or brought to a repair shop. If you are good at repairing units on your own, a search on the internet about such a problem will give you the answer sometimes. You will need to know how to solder and have the equipment and parts in hand to do the job. There really is no magic way to fix something that needs to be worked on by a Technician. So you are left with either buying another unit or having that one repaired.

Thank you very much for your reply, it was a great help to me. I have since found a local dealer here in the UK and will take the deck in. Thank you once again for all your help

Check your lens on the laser....is it dirty? IF so it needs to be cleaned....STOP !!!......the laser lens is on the focusing mechanism, which is EXTREMELY delicate.

TO clean the lens, get a Q-Tip and some distilled water ( the lenses are plastic, so do not EVER use alcohol, cleaners, window cleaners,etc... on the lens. These will make the lens cloudy and you will then have to replace the mechanism).

Moisten the Q-tip ( Not to the point where it is dripping, but just moist ), and CAREFULLY clean all dust and dirt off the lens. Wait 10 minutes untill the lens has dried completely and try it then.

Hopefully this solved your problem. Dirt is the enemy of all Optically read formats.

Good luck... Rob

SOURCE: disc reading

How confident are you at opening it up? And where are you? If it can get table of contents info it could be gummed up grease on the laser sled.

SOURCE: CD player won't play after pressing the play button on all tracks

This problem is usually caused by dust or smog accumulating on the laser lens assembly. Unplug the unit and remove the top cover. Take a cotton swab and wet one end with glass cleaner. Wipe it gently across the lens (do not apply pressure). Use the other end of the swab to dry the lens. Reassemble the unit and test for skipping or non-playing discs.

I have a dcd 1650 and it won't read discs, but sometimes it does, I have checked and cleaned lens

A Laser Lens malfunction will cause this to happen and is a common problem. This can be fixed at home if a new Laser Lens or Laser Lens w/ transport can be found for your unit. I used ebay to purchase a new Laser Lens for my Denon DVD 5900. The part is also sometimes available from parts stores like Parts Express for a premium, $100+ Parts Express vs $17 ebay in my case. I would recommend purchasing a FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL from an online vendor. The manual will cost between $10 - $20 and is downloadable. The installation is very straight forward. The part that might not be clear would be the grounding shorts on the new Laser Lens. THE NEW LENS COMES SHORTED AND AFTER THE PART IS INSTALLED IN THE PLAYER THE GROUND SHORTS MUST BE UNSOLDERD FOR IT TO WORK CORECTLY. The part comes this way to protect the Laser from static shock damage.
The repair on a Denon DVD 5900 cost $30 and took about an hour to complete.

When ejecting a cd the housing would open and close right back sometimes. How can this problem be fixed?

It sounds like the open switch inside the door is dirty & cannot make a connection when the CD door opens. Clean the switch & it should function properly. Otherwise, replace that switch.

I have a denon DCD-625 and it has suddenly stopped reading some CD's. Even a new box set I got for Xmas - reads 1st one but not other two.

Maybe it is dirty. try a cd lens cleaner. you can get them from local electronic stores. and if that's the problem then keep your cds clean. put them back in their case and only handle them by putting your finger through the hole and gently supporting the outside edge. never touch the face (other side to label) and if you do get dirt or bogies on em then clean from the center outwards in straight line. Good luck!

I have a Denon dcd 600 cd player. Old but little used and in good condition. Used to put in a cd, close the drawer and the entire display would light up, the disc having not been read at all. After...

it's most likely the belt that drives the cd tray has perished over time and certainly if you tilt the player to help it, that's just gravity giving it a push. replace the belt and all should be ok. hope this helps?

Denon Amp (PMA-700AE) ignores the signal from CD Player DCD-700

If you can follow the circuit from the input of the cd play socket inside the amp itself you might come accross a Memory Retention Capacitor that supplies an IC. If you do. I can't for certain say one will be there, I would replace it, it might be the cause of the lost memory of your device.
If you don't know what a M R C looks like, they are like electrolytic types, but haven the appearance of being squashed. The value will be low only 0.22uf etc and the volts very low say 5.5. The PC board marking will be different to a normal capictor.

Having a problem with my CD Player's drawer

This has to do with a mini switch inside the door mechanism that it pushes once but with the bounce phainomenon in electric pulses it thinks that you pushed the cd door inside manualy and it tries to close the door. Try replacing this mini switch. this will solve your problem.
