Why does my computer suddenly shut down during use?

Dell xps 200 suddenly shuts down during use. Some times after several hours and sometimes after only a few minutes after turning on. When this happens it is several hours before I can use it again. The tower doesn't feel overheated only warm.

Remove the side panel and have a look if your cpu fan is turning.... you may need to blow the dust and dirt out of it as well... if the tower even feels remotely warm that's likely the issue... also check the fan on the power supply. either way it will likely need to be cleaned

What brand of pc is this? Download a diagnostic program to test internal functions. Sounds like maybe a motherboard or power supply issue.

Why will my dell xps not turn on

Did it do the shutdown process or just all of sudden go black? I would try another power adapter/charger sometimes they just go bad. If you know the adapter is working and you get no lights @ all its probably something internal like the power jack or motherboard.

Cmos Checksum Error

Check CMOS and Memory Modules:::If the error message is "UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP," then it indicates you have problem with the memory of your computer. You need to check whether the SIMMs (Single Inline Memory Modules) are compatible and have the same speed. Secondly, also check whether you have set the CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) to the right amount of RAM. If these solutions do not work, you might have to replace memory in your computer....try to use system utility tool like Reginout.. Hope the problem is resolved.

Hi Have a Dell Pc Windows 7 OS. it will not shut down unless I hold the button. Start-up in good shut down is always a problem

This is a possible malware or virus attack. Your system is encountering data or system corruption preventing it to execute the command during shut down. Best fix is to reinstall Windows 7 in your computer to erradicate all errors and make sure to install an updated security software (antivirus) afterwards.

Dell xps 200 shuts down without warning. The powe...

Opitions:
1.) Your system may have an over heating problem
Make sure all your fans are running and not making excessive noise.

2.)You may be a victim of spyware/maleware infections. You will need to have your system cleaned. This should help resolve your issue.

I would recommend trying CCleaner first to see if this helps you. Please keep in mind this will not rid your system of everything just keep you a float and offer you a fighting chance.

Please keep me posted and updated on your issue. I am here for you and will see your issues out till resolved.

Have a great and wonderful day :)

My XPS 200 keeps shutting down and power light blinks

During when does your computer shutdown? Please check the diagnostic lights at the back as well which ones have light on it during the time it would shutdown.

Since you said that the light is blinking yellow it just says that your power supply is running outside its normal operating range. So most likely you would need a change of power supply. Maybe a higher wattage would be better.

I have a Dell XPS M1210 laptop for which I have just purchased a new 9-cell compatible battery. It worked great for a couple of hours, but now shuts off immediately when unplugged from the AC power supply....

You might want to try what I did when I had a completely discharged battery for my Dell Laptop. I attached the battery to the computer, make sure the computer is off and plug in the charger for a full twenty four hours (undisturbed). And this really worked. I had no problems with the battery. Good luck.

Dell XPS 200 Computer shuts off leaving blinking amber light

3 most common solutions to your problem are:
  1. Bad power supply; once it heats up will quit without warning
  2. Bad heatsink/fan; processor heats up and will lock up your Pc
  3. Bad motherboard
Try opening the machine and give the inside a thorough cleaning, paying special attention to the heatsink and fan. Once clean and you've ensured the fan is operating, put it back together and see if your problem is fixed. If not, a new power supply will likely fix your problem. Best of luck.

Dell XPS M1530 trouble shutting down

Try this, just to see if the shutdown actually works.

Open a command prompt and enter the following:

shutdown -s -t 05

-s is to shutdown, -t 05 is a 5 second countdown.  Let me know if it actually shuts down.
