Technics problems My turntable started to drag I haven't tried anything to fix it yet. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you

the pitch reset lamp fails to illuminate and the platter only runs at one speed regardless of pitch position, and at the same time it tends to hunt, ie it sounds like the record is warped. any idea's? stu.

There is no drive belt on this unit. This is a direct drive turntable. Your pitch control might be on it's way out. Are you getting any sort of unusual speed issues? Or is it just sort of running slower than usual? There is a pot you can adjust under the turntable platter to speed it up a bit, however, this is only a temporary fix. It is listed as VR301 - and is on the main board under the turntable platter - it says PITCH on it. Try adjusting that pot, to see if it does anything. WORD OF CAUTION: Make sure your turntable platter is ALWAYS on whenever you power up your turntable, and if you do any electrical modifications, make sure you always disconnect your turntable from it's power source to be on the safe side. If this does not work, then either your pitch control (which is a variable resistor) will need to be replaced. The problem could also be one of the drive components on the main board, however, this will need to be worked on by a service tech. Hope this helps. - Justin

One suggestion is to replace the drive belt. Another one is lubricate the bushing located in the center of the table. Good luck.

Problem with unstable pitch in Technics SL 1200 MK2 turntable

Hi Thomas, as you say, it's not the engine, nor the integrated engine
Most likely, the pitchel potentiometer that generates the problem
I would try to clean it, applying a small amount of contact cleaner and test if there are improvements
Keep in mind that it is the Pitch potentiometer that is changing the speed
Comment if the suggestion served
Regards Franco Dosil

Saludos Franco Dosil

The power supply of the turntable needs checking. It could be just a fuse or something more serious, such as a faulty transformer.

Technics 1210's playing out of one speaker / channel

Have you considered the amp to be the problem? The amp has a magnetic cartridge pre-amp, which only the turntables would use, that can fail. It's often a single IC that has gone.

If it's a mechanical screech you should be able to recreate it by rotating the platter by hand clockwise. Are you saying that did not reveal anything? I'd suspect a foreign object is involved.

EVERYTIME I PLAY A RECORD IT DRAGS TO PICK UP SPEED

Are you sure you have a Technics SL1200MK2 Direct Drive Turntable? If so, then there is a major problem with the drive system. This can only be diagnosed and repaired by a qualified technician.

If your turntable is not the Techics SL1200MK2, and you have no idea what turntable you have, look at the model's label, if it says BELT DRIVE - this is the reason why it drags to pick up speed. If it says DIRECT DRIVE, then take it to a service center for repair.
