Error with DAV-S500

I went to play a DVD in my system and suddenly the screen went blank and the system itself started showing C-81 and now I cannot get the DVD out or the slide tray to open. Any ideas on how to fix this problem???

Sony DAV-S500 error c-81: On the rear side of the DVD board connected to the DVDv drive is a power transistor Q002 that is shorted BASIS-EMITTER. The device is an Toshiba 2SA1213Y (PNP transistor 1$) Replace and your DVD works! good luck :) Foxi from Budapest, Hungary, Europe

I have a Sony DAV S500 AV system and with certain DVD and with the volumn just over 20 (not really that loud), the system shuts down and PROTECT shows in the message window. I read somewhere on the web...

If the subwoofer and other speakers were included with the system, THAT is what they're designed for. Mixing and matching with other products is usually discouraged if not forbidden.

http://audio.manualsonline.com/search.html?q=Sony+DAV-S500

If the problem returns with connection of the sub it may be defective or on its way out. Internal damage to the voice coil from being overdriven could have melted or worn through the insulation and it would cause intermittent undesired electrical contact or load variation under certain conditions, like high volumes.

If your speaker level settings are unusually boosted for the sub you may be overdriving it.

Introduction

The DVD Upgrade is an advanced modification to your DVD player, which adds extra features and enables you to get more from your machine. The upgrade supplements the DVD player and in no way harms the playback quality or removes any performance features of the machine.

Players Supported

The following DVD players are supported by this version of the DVD Upgrade:

 Sony DAV-C700
 Sony DAV-S400
 Sony DAV-S500
 Sony DAV-S800

Macrovision & CGMS disable

All DVD players have a system called Macrovision built in to the player, which is designed to stop the copying of DVD discs to video. However, this system can have adverse affects on some projectors. For this reason the DVD MOD Upgrade disables Macrovision to solve any problems.

Hi,I can play a DVD disc on the system and get sound from the surround sound speakers but I can't get a picture on the tv,Sony Trinitron. The connetions are from the DAV S500:(DVD only)red and white cable...

Hi,
First try with yellow video output of DAV-S500 in yellow video TV input to get its picture. (yellow output means composite video out)
Green-Blue-Red video output is component output that will be turn on when you switch the unit into Progressive picture mode, that option would be available in Menu of DAV-S500
Hope this info will help you.
Thanks.

yes u can connect an externel dvd player to your sony dav s 500...

you have

I put a disk in and it played for a min. then it stopped and then the code 81 came up on the screen now will not play.

Usually when you get an error message on anything that uses a disk is is probably due to a dirty eye and it is having trouble reading the disk.

Got a code c-81 then dvd player won't do anything. Help

A bizarre coincidence but our Sony DVD player DAV C700 did exactly the same when the kids were watching a DVD. All other functions on the system are still working but the DVD player wll not eject or play - and the self diagnosis function C 81 remains illuminated on the display.

Sony DAV S500

The protect indication is because of a fault detected in the amplifier section. If this appeared occasionally before and cleared itself, it suggests bad connections. If you know how to solder, open up the unit and resolder any connections that appear grainy or have rings. That may solve the problem.

Is Sony DAV-S500 optical input compatible with optical output from Pioneer DVD player DV-566K?

I don't think this has an Optical but a Coaxial connection. You might try a coaxial audio cable not optical.
