The dehumidifier 20L that I have does not produce any water when on. The tank is always empty and the humidity hardly changes even though a separate humidity meter shows say 68%.

It sounds like it needs servicing and recharging with refrigerant gas. It works by running the moist air over refrigerated elements where the moisture condenses and drips into the tank. Make sure you are on the right setting, most have 'blow air, remove moisture, and A/C'..

I have a brand new dehumidifier (properly sized) that is running 24 hours/day and producing some water (roughly 1L).

with a reading of 66 to 67 % rh this is a bit low for normal rooms humidity , I cant see why you'd want to try to get it down to 55% unless its for a special purpose (drying paint?) , I get this question a lot from folks , what I tell em is if you set your airconditioner in your home down to 30 degrees would your house ever get that cold = "no " the houses ability to heat itself is greater than the a/c units ability to cool it (even if its properly sized) so why would you expect a small appliance like a dehumidifier to be able to do any different ? all you end up doing is over working the appliance and costing you extra money in lost power
the general excepted room humidity is 70% rh this is a industry standard ,that all appliances are designed to achieve , and yes as the room gets dryer it will extract less and less water from air

I cannot change the set point on my humidity control. It is at 70%. If I press the up arrow i get 2 beeps and no change. When I press the down arrow there is no response at all. Is there some sort of...

The problem is, your trying to raise the humidity level, not lowering. These work in reverse of what you may think. Lower the level (Arrow Down) to 32% and it will continue to run, but will draw more humidity out of the air and will not stop until the water collection bucket is full or the humidity level reaches 32% or you turn it OFF.

When you pushed the Arrow Up Button, it was already on 70%, that's as high as it will go. But that means, you're trying to maintain a 70% humidity level. If it's Summer where you are, I don't think that's what you want.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

Didn't LG produce some bad Humidifiers several years ago and have a recall on not working units? I recall reading this in Consumers Reports. I bought one back then and it has not produced a drop of...

If has not produced a drop of water for several years, then it's not working properly. But, this may be a case of setting the humidity level to high. In other words, if you set it at 70% or Maximum, that's the humidity level that it will maintain, not remove. To remove humidity, the level must be set low (35% or Minimum).

To test the unit, based on what I just said, place it in the bathroom, set the level as low as possible and turn the shower on medium hot. Do Not turn the bathroom exhaust fan ON. As you leave, close the bathroom door. Return in 15 minutes, turn the shower OFF and check the bucket water collected. If there's any water in it, it's working fine. It was probably a case of the humidity level being set to high.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

Santa fe dehumidifier running but not producing any condensate. No ice forming on the coils and filter is clean.

You should check if the compressor is running. Your description makes it appear that the fan may be running and the compressor may not be running.

There are many things that can cause a compressor to cease running:

Open defrost thermostat
Bad run capacitor
Low refrigerant charge (caused by refrigerant leak)
Bad compressor relay
Bad compressor overload
Bad compressor motor

Other things to check:

If the fan switch is set to "on" and the humidity control is set to a high humidity level, the unit may appear to be running, but the compressor will not operate. Check the setting of your humidity control.

If the dehumidifier is operating in a room with a high temperature and a low dew point (very low relative humidity), it may be unable to remove any more moisture from the air.

If you are not comfortable troubleshooting the unit on your own, call the manufacturer service department at 1-800-533-7533, EXT 8459. They are very helpful.

The dehumidifier runs all day but there is only a little water being produced. We have humidity set at 35%, and the actual readings are much higher. This is only a year or so old. The last machine worked...

coolant may be low - warranty should be 5 years

If the room temperature is close to 60, the coils may be frozen (completely encased in ice). If this is the case, move it where the water can drain off - about 1 gallon which may NOT run into the drain bucket.
I out mine over the floor drain.
Turn off and it will defrost over night.
Only specially made dehumidifiers work below a room temp of 60 degrees (the temp of a basement in winter).
Does it need to be running? A digital humidity sensor from Radio Shack is cheap and may tell you the humidity is OK - only 50% or less.

Haier HDN455 dehumidifier fan runs continuously but not compressor

First ! you are trying to use this dehum in cold weather conditions. this time of the year there is little humidity in the air. best conditions for the dehum to work will be when the temp. is 65 degrees or high, and the humidity is 60% or higher. if you don't trust what I said then take it to sears to be checked out.
