Laptop battery problems are quite common among owners of all brands of notebooks. On average, laptop batteries last one to three years. Their exact lifespan depends on several factors, such as how much you use the batteries, the number of charge-discharge cycles and the quality of the batteries. Lithium-ion batteries begin to lose the ability to hold a charge over time. Before you replace a laptop battery, consider that there may be other reasons that the laptop is not working properly. You may be able to recharge the battery instead.

1.Determine if the laptop battery is defective. While less than 1 percent of batteries are defective, the possibility is still there. If the battery is new and only charges some of the way, it may just require a BIOS update to charge fully. New batteries that refuse to charge at all may be defective. Purchase a new laptop battery to replace the defective one.

2. Test the laptop power adapter to see if it's faulty. Run the laptop directly from the laptop power adapter and without the battery. If the laptop does not work with the adapter plugged in, the adapter is dead and you will need to replace it. The laptop battery may refuse to charge if the adapter is faulty. Charge the battery with the laptop turned off.

3. Insert the laptop battery into another laptop to test it. If the laptop battery charges in another laptop, the laptop's motherboard may be bad. Replacing a motherboard in a computer can be very expensive. If the cost to fix the computer is not worth the cost of replacing the motherboard, consider purchasing a new laptop.

4. Reinstall the battery to ensure all connectors latch properly. The latch mechanism that holds the laptop battery should click into place. If the latch does not close, remove the battery and examine the compartment for signs of damage.

5. Troubleshoot the BIOS to determine if there is a hardware problem. Turn on the laptop and immediately enter BIOS setup by holding down the "Del" and "F1" or "F2" keys, depending on the make and model of the laptop. When the BIOS screen appears, see how long it takes for the battery to charge down. If the battery does not last as long as the BIOS setup, a hardware failure may be the problem.I hope you find it very helpful. Best regards.

SOURCE: Replacement battery for Dell Inspiron 1501 won't charge

Yes, they do have somethnig built in to detect if you are using a non-Dell battery, ergo you would not receive messages like "Battery cannot be identified" at boot up, and a warning that the system won't charge the battery. It is simply a ploy to ensure users buy Dell batteries at their inflated price. It's also known as anti-competitive behaviour in the business world.

Just so you know, they incorporate the same system with the power adaptor. If you use a non-Dell one, it will state that it cannot determine the power adaptor type and then let you know that the laptop will run slowly and will not carge your battery. Another way to make sure you behave and buy only Dell spares. Incidentally, with the adaptor it knows if it's a Dell one because Dell use the centre pin of the adaptor jack connector to send a 2.5V ID signal to the laptop. The positive and negative of the 19V supply is on the inside and outside of the metal barrel of the jack plug. Internal pin is solely for ID signal.

I'm afraid the only recourse is to purchase a Dell adaptor if you wish for the battery to charge. I'd recommend a second-hand one from eBay. Try to buy the highest wattage one you can.

SOURCE: Dell C400 Laptop Battery not charging

Go into the battery properties and check if the battery is charging. If it says it is, then test it, use the battery to see if it really is charging, they will sometimes give a false reading. If it's not charging, then check the power supply with an ohm meter for the proper output. If this all checks good, but the battery isn't charging, then I'm afraid you have a failed power management system on the motherboard. The power management system controls the charging along with other power related aspects of the machine. If the power management system has failed, then unfortunately, you will have to replace the motherboard in order to fix it.

SOURCE: battery not charging!

If the battery is 2 years old, then buy a replacement battery, see if it charges. Portable batteries are good for roughly 300 to 500 recharge/discharge cycles before they begin to fail roughly 18 months. Dell warrants the Battery for 1 year, so there is no warranty on the battery. If a replacement battery doesn't charge, then the motherboard will need to be replaced. If under warranty, Dell will fix it, if not, motherboards are $100-150 on Ebay.

Remove password bios vostro3300

Hi
By comparison with many laptops this is fairly easy. You need to disconnect the CMOS battery from the motherboard, hold the power button down for about 10 seconds to ensure no residual charge remains and then replace the CMOS battery.
The reason t is relatively easy is that there is a Service Manual for the Vostro 3300 here:-
http://downloads.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_laptop/esuprt_vostro_notebook/vostro-3300_service%20manual_en-us.pdf
I suggest you download it to a computer and save it for future reference. It is in pdf format so you can use the search feature to find the relevant bits that you need and if you are not able to carry out the procedure on your laptop whilst accessing the manual on another computer, you can print out only the page you need.
The main bits you need are :-
Page 2-3 - Removing base cover
Page 4-5 - Removing main battery
Page 12-13 - Removing the coin-cell battery

Please take care not to damage any of the internal kit. Nothing should need any forcing and I would recommend studying the manual before starting work.
Good Luck

Sounds like the charging circuit on your motherboard is defective. Also check the AC adaptror by switching it with other Vostro.

I have a Dell Vostro 3300. It has a sim card slot under its battery. I couldn't get it working. Which software should I use to configure it? I couldn't succeed with Dell Mobile Broadband Manager...

Are you sure you have a wireless broadband mini card installed? This sits under they keyboard. I suspect you have not. The Dell site describes how to take off your keyboard (very easy - stick a thin screwdriver down behind the F12 key and gently lever upwards)
For better description, look up repair manual on the Dell site for the 3300.
If you DO have a mini card installed, perhaps it is not enabled in your BIOS?. On startup press F12 and navigate from there.

Using Dell laptop Vostro 1500, but battery cannot communicate with the system

There might be a possibility that the battery is not making good contact with the laptop's charging circuitry. To eliminate this possibility as a root cause of the battery not charging, turn off and unplug the laptop, take the battery off the laptop, and using a dry tooth brush, scrub in between the fins of the battery connector on the motherboard & on the battery it self. When done, put the battery back into the laptop, plug it, and turn it on.

BATTERY NOT CHARGING

Use a voltmeter to check your charger. If it is producing what is marked on it, then the charging circuit in the Dell motherboard has gone bad.

Replacement of the external charger is easy, the motherboard needs to be done in the shop.
