I have a Panasonic PV-GS150. I can not get my computer, Dell XPS8500 Windows 7 OS to recognize the Camcorder in order to import video.

The computer recognized it once and now will not recognize the camcorder. I'm trying to use the USB connection, as the Computer does not have a firewire port

SOURCE: USB 2.0 vs. Filrewire - video to PC

Hi I have figured it out. Even if the USB 2.0 is faster than the firewire the camcorder itself do not transfer at the optimal speed when connecting with the USB (even id the USB can transfer faster). So the only fast transfer option is the firewire

The usb is only used for the still pics and for the webcam. You need a DV cable to upload vid.

SOURCE: No 1384 firewire driver for Panasonic PV-GS300 camcorder

I found the recipe. To get my DV Camcorder to work using 1384 (Firewire) on my computer I did:

1. Get a good cable. If you paid less than $20 for it, you got the wrong one.
2. Ensure that the 1384 (firewire) port is enabled on your computer. Go into the BIOS setup and check to be sure. Mine was OFF!
3. If you get an error with Windows XP not being able to find your hardware, you need to get all the drivers. There are four or five of them along with a configuration file. Miss any one and you are dead. My solution was to reinstall Windows Service Pack 3. This took a long time, but fixed the driver problems.

Good luck!

SOURCE: My windows 7 laptop does not recognize my

You are going to have to check that your firewire is being seen by windows 7 first of all. If not you will need to rectify that.
When you do get it to recognize it, here is a link for an update to the program that came with your camcorder for it to work with Windows Vista but it should also work for Windows 7.

Software for Windows System 7 upload to PC Computer

Panasonic still has not provided Windows 7 compatibility for this device. Frankly, considering the age of the camcorder, I would be surprised if Panasonic were ever to do so.

Huge Loss Of Quality When Importing To Computer

First off, see if it has a firewire port, and if so then try to upload via firewire cable, not usb. But for any camera, you lose quality when uploading to a computer. What you could try doing is convert it to another format, this may improve quality some. Try not using widescreen, see what results you will get. Also, are you using internal memory on the camera or external (IE-SD card). From my experience, using a high quality SD card (SDHC for example) and getting a card reader (They are cheap, USB card readers about a buck on ebay) and uploading it like that, you get better quality video and pictures. Try some of these, if they don't work you can wait for another person to answer or email me.
Thanks, Aram

I am unable to connect my Panasonic PV GS150 handycam and Vista business edition running laptop using a USB cable. Do I need driver S/W?

You will need to install the USB driver from your software(disc) to your vista.

and make sure the computer is recognizing your camera, check under control panel and device managers list if your product is listed under imaging devices, but chances are you might be having compatibility issues since it doesnt have an updater for Vista, hope this help. pls dont forget to rate. Thanks!!
