RCA HTS-5000 missing remote and manual- cannot change settings
The setting that's on now is for a widescreen TV. My TV is not that type. I cannot find the settings button on the receiver to change this back. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

According to the manual, you cannot change your settings without the remote. You might see if you can purchase a remote on line or at radio shack, since they originally sold that model some years back.

Some widescreen TV sets have problems displaying subtitles. They often have a setting on the Widescreen mode that allows for missing lines. Hitting the widescreen key on the TV remote will adjust it.
Need more info. Are you using the volume control on the unit as your main control or the volume on the TV? I have a setup in which my sound is routed through a 5.1 Teac amp. The sound level on the amp os set and not changed. The volume control on the TV dictates the amount of sound. If the amp volume is set too high, then this will be amplified even more through the TV's sound input (the red and wite RCA cables).
If this is the case, turn down one of the folumes (the one that remains unchanged) and see what happens.
Assuming (since you don't identify them) your RCA has at least one available analog stereo input and your TV has a analog stero-only output, just connect them with RCA cables, set the TV's output volume (if it has menu item for it) to FIXED so theTV volume doesn't affect the output, select the input on the HTS and you're good to go.
Another way might be to take the TV-related audio from the cable box straight to the HTS in whatever manner is the best quality. Digital would make mulitchannel audio possible.
Or name the devices involved, find the manuals and read up on your applicable options.
Use the menu key on the set it has a size selection in the menu set it on widescreen or 16:9 I suggest buying a new original remote as even a new RCA universal remote may not have the ZOOM or aspect control on them.
Run a regular RCA type audio cable from your TV audio out to your Home Theatre audio in. That is what I have done recently with my Samsung LCD and Home Theater. You then have to put your Home Theater on Aux 1 or Aux 2 to get the sound from TV. Ensure your TV's volume is off.
